We are back. Hope you had a great weekend. I got absolutely nothing done with my model railroad unfortunately but let’s hear from you. We’ll assemble again on Friday the 11th to do it all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
A nice relaxing two-week vacation with plenty of trains and good times. I put back into service another loco. It's an Athearn GP7 that was drawing mucho power (about an amp) and ran slower and slower and then stopped, just sitting there humming. I had an old GP35 (one that got replaced by a Kato) hanging around, and I transplanted the motor. A more reasonable 300-400 milliamps and smooth running, and ran around for over an hour without stalling. I then took the faulty motor and gave it The Treatment - full cleaning with contact cleaner, a rinse under the tap, and whatever residual liquid was left I blew out with compressed air. Relubed it and ran it alone for about an hour with no issues. Now I have spare Athearn motor. I also reunited with an old flame from my youth. At the time, it was the second engine I had, from Christmas 1974, a Cox GP35, CB&Q 989 in Chinese Red. I went to the hobby shop for some supplies and she was there, in the display, a used Athearn GP35, identical colors and road number. Calling to me... Nice Christmas present!
I painted my friends NW-2's. Next will be a clear gloss - then of course ---- decaling. Masking these guys was a real PITA. But, worth it. Tape will come off tonight. Hopefully I will have no bleed under. Hope Y'all had a great weekend, Wolf
After slipping on the ice Sunday morning I ended up with back pain all day and got nothing done. Monday pain is gone and I was able to get what I wanted to do on Sunday plus some. Did some cleaning, rock castings and started to add more mountain for the logging camp scene. Right now the layout looks like it wants to do the hula. I still need abut 10-15 more castings for the rock work I’m doing..
This weekend, spent considerable time forming the shell for the first (of many) ridges/landforms. Here's where this is going as well as the first train through the cut.
