‘Twas the day before Christmas and all through the shop, not a critter was stirring, not even a switcher.... Or is there? Welcome back! The little station in the woods is decorated, complete with a train running around the tree. Did you have a good weekend? Saturday: I worked for my part time job then got ready for a small Christmas get together later that night. Sunday: However, I spent a lot of time looking at track plans and even spent some time switching the Galesburg City Job. After a lot of soul searching I have some big changes and New Years resolutions coming up, but more on that later. I spent most of the day running trains and day dreaming. So how about you? Rey productive weekend. I can now show my surprise. It took me three weeks to complete. Here is Bride Junction. A nice Christmas themed area of the layout. The idea for this area came to me while driving home from my LHS. I had a Christmas fair kit that I didn’t know where to put. The initial idea came To me as a lift out section that I could use seasonally. The ideas started popping and it ended up going to an area I wasn’t planning on finishing until last. Plans change of course. It is now a permanent display that is removable. I placed it on the swing bridge. This area I realized couldn’t be built up because damage could happen. So I built it all right n Masonite which worked out beautifully for the lift outs. I now have a great winter scene. I am planning on continuing the winter theme along the mountain area as well. So here ya go Merry Christmas. The only things left to add are a light up Christmas tree and some sledders that are on back order. I also have a sound card that plays three Christmas carols from ngineering to put a n place as well. This area had two sections. One is the Christmas fair and the other a backwoods cabin and stable with horses. Here you have UTAH 9003 posing with a rotary snowplow on loan from the UP.
Sat at the work bench, and looked at a project. Mulling over a couple of ideas I have for that work and still contemplating.....
I weathered half dozen boxcars and a tank car working on 5 woodchip hoppers and a few other freight cars too
Put down a base coat of acrylic brown on the bookshelf layout, soldered some rail, added feeder wires. Maybe today I will glue down a few pieces of track...
Arrived in Delaware on ATK #20, Crescent, albeit 9 hours down. Sunday went to the B&O Museum in Baltimore. Wonderful place that I recommend for everyone. It has a humongous array of hardware from 1829 through to 2016-ish, that being a CryoTrans car. (Doubt if B&O ever ran one, unless time travel actually exists. LOL) The museum also has a very large N Scale module setup operated by a local club. Its highlight was a 50 car Autotrain, the largest consist that AT runs usually for holidays. The museum also has C&O Alleghany #1604, B-I-G!
Have not heard or read anything in a while, so am wondering how they are doing these days, after their roundhouse collapse a few years back?
I was able to get all the ground throws added to my small yard modules. I will start out with dead frogs and eventually add frog juicers. My test car and a long cut of cars run well being pushed through it all. They aren't the prettiest turnouts but hopefully they will be reliable.
Roundhouse fully repaired and operational. All exhibits and stock appear undamaged except one late 1800's RPO car which had a collapsing final 10' at one end. Though that easily could have been rotten wood rather than from the roof collapse. They also were giving rides in three lightweight stainless fluted side cars, behind a lovely B&O GP-30. All in all, an exceptional facility.

Well, the bookshelf switching layout is starting to look like something. The track is almost all down, waiting for glue to set. No cork roadbeds on this as the prototype had all tracks the same level. Peco turnouts and flex track except a bit of Atlas flex in the rear. Code 80 throughout. So far there are 8 sets of power feeds that will go to terminal blocks on the underside. Mostly soldered together in about 3 or 4 segments.
