Wanted to see what everyone thought of the ditch lights on IM's Tunnel Motors. Are they like Kato or FVM's GP 60 on clearity and brightness? TIA......
On Intermountain's release schedule the SP speed lettering scheme is listed as having high mounted ditch lights. Have they had them in the past or is this an updated shell?
Not sure what you saw but I couldn't find anything mentioning ditchlights on their website. The earlier versions did not have any...at least I certainly don't recall ever seeing any. Again, this is their N scale models.
He's not dreaming it up. The IM page for the Speed Lettered version (69403) clearly states that the model has high mounted ditchlights. http://www.intermountain-railway.com/n/html/69403.htm I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's true, though.
It doesn't say they are WORKING ditch lights. It may mean representations of ditch lights as opposed to versions without them. Adrian
None of my versions have ditch lights, maybe the last run had "ditch lights" but like it was said by Adrian, they are not working. If they would release a new run, like they did with the SD40-2 with DCC and sound versions, that would have working ditch lights and be awesome. But it would take them another 3-4 years to get them actually to the shelves
Thanks guys..... I never have bought any IM products before and didn't want to be disappointed. I won't put my eggs all in one basket and will get some with and without ditchlighs...
If these are the up and coming releases, they might have lighted ditch lights, but I don't call them working ditch lights. To me, that means ability to have them alternate/flash. The SD40-2 are advertised with working ditch lights, but they do not flash, as it is a single LED that lights them. I'm glad they are lit, but not happy that I have to spend more time and money on a $200 locomotive that has 6 LED's on the decoder board to add more to get the flashing.
The new run of SD40T-2 will use the same design as the (brand) new SD40-2. As mentioned above, the ditch lights won't alternate but just light on/off. You can change the effect in the LokSound decoder, but as both ditch lights are connected to the same light source you'll have the same effect on both. Better than nothing as it comes with no extra cost, but not as you would expect though. The "ditch light" LED is actually always installed on the LokSound board regardless of whether the model is announced with or without it. If announced without it, then you have to add you own light pipes (fibre optic) to make it work.
