Hello everyone. Im Mike and live in the dust bowl (hopefully getting back to Dallas soon). I grew up with trains through my Dad's love for the hobby, who had an HO layout. At age 13 I became interested in N scale and saved $70 in lawn mowing money to purchase the Life Like Yard Master set, and fell in love with N scale. I departed from the hobby for many years, but last September I came down with a train bug and started binge buying N scale again! I found the need to do other things besides be on a computer or TV all the time. I'd like to model on railroads that ran through my beloved state. I'm trying to stick mostly to ATSF and SP in the 1930s-50's. In starting this hobby again I've found myself feeling overwhelmed with information to learn. Hence I've signed up here for support for those head scratcher projects. I'm hoping my modeling background will serve me well here as it looks some from scratch building will be necessary. No layout yet as I live in an apartment, but hoping to build a small one soon as a "test bed" Thanks in advance for having me on board! Mike
Welcome Mike from the Sauna Bowl in South East Texas. I have lots of prototype information on the Texas & New Orleans (SP) and Gulf Colorado & Santa Fe (ATSF) from the 30s - 50s if you need any.
Hi Mike, Welcome. We're happy to have you on board. Apartment living doesn't mean no layout. It only means you might have to make a small switching layout that can move with you when you relocate. Or you can have an N-Track or T-Track module that you can take to a club in your area. Hopefully there is a club nearby and they support either, or both types.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Your situation is a perfect example of where a small modular concept, such as T-Trak, would be well worth consideration.
Welcome here, Mike, from someone else who "came down with a train bug." I love that statement, it's true for all of us.
Hi Mike. Welcome to TrainBoard! I have a friend who lived in an apartment and built his HO as a "roll-away" pike that he kept under his bed. When he finally was able to get a place where he could expand, he just moved it and built onto it. Anyway ... we are delighted to have you aboard!
