I been doing a little modeling lately too. But not posting pictures as yet so here goes first are a couple Walthers kits I had to strip the paint and decorate for the Frisco. I gotta let the paint dry for a few weeks then I will get some weathering done on them. I need a picture to know how these cars looked in the late 1980's. PHOTO_20170602_212032.jpg

I painted decaled the Railpower SD60M some years ago, but never got around to weathering it up. These were really good locos in their day, many are used as switch engines now, they have been renumbered a few times along the way too. Here is the BNSF 8199. I think its 14xx now. If it is even on the roster at all.

Here it is on the wye at the West Channel spur. I'm pretty happy with the results of the weathering.
Thank you for the compliments guys!

Very nice Tom, there are some working the yard in Tulsa now. They are still in the green scheme. I also recently saw them bringing cars to the sport of Catoosa. Which is a switch because all I have seen for a couple of years was a couple of Dash 8s and a GP 60 on occasion. I'll keep an eye out and see if this is a trend.

    Great pictures Tom!

Tom. Wow, that Walthers airslide almost looks like Tangent with all the detailed lettering!

    Great job!

Thanks Guys I appreciate the kind words and comments. Kinda interesting that 3M didnt make those decals a little more robust. The paint did OK looks like. It also seems as they put all new TM's under it lately too.

Working on my Frisco W/V Caboose to go with my GP15-1. I removed the roof walk and am adding cut levers and break levers under the body edge. There will also be roof grabs added and an antenna. It won't be prototype for the cabooses they had but it ought to look ok. Thanks for looking!

Chalks and cheap craft paints, just started with the light colors and went to darker ones.

On the left is the long hood of KY&N GP7 #321. All of the KY&N GP7's are set up long hood forward, hence the nose bell and "backwards" 3-chime. On the right is the unpainted long hood of KY&N GP9 #553. I don't have decals ordered yet, so these may sit for a few weeks.

GP7 #321 has number and stripes applied now. Thanks for the comments, both of the shells above are Proto 2000.

I have a little more detail on this unit plus other projects and more in the future on my blog.

    Help!

Just got this first-run Bachmann K4 for a few bucks: it's very nice looking, but the first and 3rd drivers (on both sides) show this "mushrooming" effect:

    IMG_20170712_140239502.jpg

It runs, but just barely, as you can imagine. This is my first Bachmann split-frame loco; what's up with those drivers, and what (if anything) can be done?

That's certainly odd. It's almost as if someone picked it up and squeezed too hard on those drivers and mashed them inwards. Just a quick brainstorm: try to buy replacement running gear from Bachmann, replace the bad wheels with after market parts (if that is possible) or remove them and try to bend them back without breaking (could be a catastrophic failure). Good luck.

    Thanks...I think I'll need it!
Yeah, I checked the B-Mann website; the only drivers listed are for the later-release DCC model, and even then, they show as "sold out"...:(

If you want to try to bend them back, I would put them in a clamp and flatten them that way. You could see if heating them up would help in this process. I doubt that it is feasible; it is just an idea. The problem would be messing up the diameter or getting it out of a true circle. Pressing down on the center would make the spokes push out, so they could also bend in the process. Is it like this on the other side? If it has plastic axles, you could try pulling out on the wheels to compensate for their recession.

Yes, both sides show this on the same drivers. What's really odd is that they are all still in gauge; so it seems the axles have pushed out, as opposed to the rims being pushed inward...strangest thing I've ever seen...
