Hi everybody. I've just joined TrainBoard and hope that I might be able to make some positive contribution, as well as learning something myself. I'm a returning (I suppose) modeller, based in Perth, Western Australia, where modelling supplies are often a bit limited and/or expensive, so I have a strong interest in making stuff myself wherever possible. I'm a former mechanical engineer turned craft potter so my skills and interests are a pretty mixed bag and my hobby budget is, to say the least, variable (between tiny and non-existent mostly ). My main modelling interests are UK based, but I have bursts of enthusiasm for European, US and Australian prototypes and different time periods. Time and space mean that I'm reluctant to commit to a full layout but I enjoy messing about with individual models, having built a few loco and rolling stock kits and the odd electronic gizmo. The thing that prompted me to join TB was my recent discovery of DCC++ and a desire to learn more about it. I've always fought shy of DCC on grounds of cost, but if it's possible to create a system using an Arduino clone and some open-source software, I'm in. Anyhow, I noticed that TB seemed to be the main support forum for DCC++ and so here I am. My permanently interested in everything mind, though, will ensure that it's not all I'm here for.
