I'm in my 40's and looking to get back in the hobby. As a kid my dad had an HO set and myself a Lionel 3 rail O scale set for the Christmas tree. Today I'm starting from scratch and after reexamining the many scales I initially thought TT narrow scale (NZ120/TT3n/TT9) would be the optimum scale for me but getting information has been difficult. It's almost like the TT crew doesn't want it to become popular. Because of this I may eventually go N scale.
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully some of the small gauge folks here can help you make decisions that will fit what you want. As for me, my ancient eyes have enough trouble with HO scale! lol
Welcome aboard, and hopefully you can find the info you're looking for. It is likely to be difficult if the particular scale/gauge combo you're interested in is more niche than mainstream, but perhaps something will turn up.
I hear you sir. Even in my 40's I can tell that my eye sight isn't what it was even in my 30's. Even though I have a basement now that may not always be the case. So I want to to "future proof" whatever I buy by making it small enough to work in a spare bedroom. I can always (and will probably) join a O scale club in the near future as well. I'm going to give it until the end of the week and then N scale it is. TT makes S gauge look wildly popular by comparison; with folks who will bend over backwards to bring you to their side.
Seems to me that TT was making some strides a few years ago, via efforts such as Shapeways. Now it has apparently again faded somewhat. When we set up out TT Forum, I PM'd a couple of members who had been active posters. Never received a response from either of them..
BoxcabE50: I read about your suggestion for HOn30 in the TT thread. Unfortunately it looks like the thread was locked down and I can't reply there. From what little I know since I'm still a new guy, the HOn30 requires a different size train - basically brand new. I thought of TT narrow gauge because it is closer to N scale and perhaps I might be able to get away with taking any existing TT scale locomotive/rolling stock and swapping on new trucks and/or wheels. I'm not sure if it's more complex than this but I can't get anyone to verify.
Yes, Welcome aboard caxu. WOW TT, at my age (61) I can't even see why I started N scale last year I've got quite the investment in eye helpers But having said that I love N scale, the important part is the quantity you can do vs. space.
I'll add my, "welcome to TrainBoard" too. We are happy you chose to join us, and I hope you find what you are seeking. Then you can help others who model in your gauge who are looking for similar information.
