Two loops to run two trains independently, a turntable and round house to store engines, a couple of sidings for industry and a little downtown area. The track terminus' at the upper right and lower left are for future expansion. All turnouts and turntable are DCC. Roundhouse will be to the right of the turntable.

The blue line in the center divides the layout into two 4x4 modules.

Love it. I've often thought about reverting back to a 4x8.

Looks like a nice little layout. But be advised that if this is HO scale, that inside track will require 15" radius curves, and the selection of equipment you can run on it will be quite limited.

The inside loop has 18" radius curves and the outer loop has 22" radius curves. I stayed away from the 15" radius.

Hope your carpet pad is thick. A 44" diameter circle on a 48" board is a bit dangerous. But, yes, it works.

Yes the track is out to the edge.
