If this works, this should be a link to my YouTube upload of the Tourist Train from Lima to Huancayo (Peru) on 5th October 2012.
I'm not very good at identifying USA built diesels, so can anyone tell me what the loco is, please?
I'm trying to model the FCCA Peru in 'G' scale, but having to use a little poetic license as G scale locomotives are few and far between. I've got the Aristocraft Mikado repainted as an FCCA 2-8-2 Alco, and I'm assuming that the Aristocraft Consolidation 2-8-0 is going to be as near as I can get to the Andes Class 2-8-0s which were the FCCA mainstay in steam days.
Biggest problem here in the UK is the prices, at least 50% higher than USA prices, and in some cases more then 5 times the USA price, but buying and shipping across is complocated by the wonderful UK Customs people, who levy a $25.00 'handling' charge for every item!

Here's the video link, I hope.

To me it sort of looks like an ALCO DL-500b with a cut down nose. This was an export model built for various international railroads.

That could be right. I think the FCCA got these locos in the 1970's, does that match about for dates. No idea how I'm going to model one in G scale, I can't scratch build well enough!

It looks a lot like a MLW DL-535 similar to the ones delivered to the White Pass & Yukon. If they got them in the 1970s, that's about right in the time line.

The DL-500 looks more like a PA with a pug nose.

Shoot, the DL500 is the PA looking one. I looked up the incorrect model. I believe it is a DL-535.

I have found another video, not mine this time, filmed by a local Peruvian of a very similar loco, but in different colour scheme, on the re-gaiged Huancayo to Huancalivica (sp?) line, which seems to indicate that it IS a MLW DL-535B. This one is numbered 436.

Now where am I going to find a G scale one of these!?

I believe LGB made them. I found one on the auction site (the one by the bay... ;) ).

Interesting story though, some were sold to some South American lines (Colombia, for one) then returned to Alaska.

Class MLW-535E (as bought by Colombian National Railways and sold back to Yukon & White Pass) was C-C wheel arrangement. Loco in YouTube video is B-B which indicates that it's either Alco/MLW DL515B built 1963 (no info available) or Alco/MLW DL532B built 1974.

Hi Alec. Welcome to TrainBoard. I see you're modelling Peruvian rail. As it happens, I'm modelling Colombian rail. Whereabouts in UK are you? I'm in Scotland.
