I know that in model railroading we attempt to be purists but sometimes our desire to operate a particular piece of equipment gets the best of us and maybe a BNSF locomotive flies through 1945 Smileyville on your layout. I visited a train store where they had some "fantasy equipment" (custom painted) for sale. This was really neat. If it makes you feel good when you run your layout then forget society's taboos and go for it! Is there really anything wrong with a 4-8-4 steamer in Conrail paint, an F-Unit in new BNSF colors, or a bullet train operated by The Pennsylvania Railroad? What is/would be your favorite fantasy piece? For me, it would be a DD40AX in Frisco orange and white with a second unit in the old black and yellow paint scheme as they pull long trains through Southern Missouri. Let's hear from you... ------------------ Ship It On The FRISCO!
hmmmm...... I sure do go for that SD7 in GN paint running through me layout set in 1999! ------------------ TAMR2860-AKA BC Rail King TAMR2860@hotmail.com
How about an awesome spectacle of power the Mopac only might have dreamed about. A G.E. Dash 9-44cw in the original Mopac Eagle colors. Also an EMD SD-60m in the Jenks with the turbo (large sreamer) eagle on the side in an operation lifesaver scheme. Very cool. Max Plant likes em. Also soon to be a sd-60 in neon orange paint for the makinbaconline (midwest meat packing) rr. If you have ever seen the aztec makinbacon car you'll get the idea on the scheme!!!!!!!
YES! YES! AH! YES! OH BABY! YES!.......... sorry, got carried away for a second. Back in the "What Roads do you Model?" discussion, some one has some other fantasy loco's, Pere Marquette -9's! I hope Zinker gets off his duff and finishes those "Sunburst" B&O -9's of his. I'm thinking of doing a Blue and White Route Rock -9. I've got this shell just laying around....hummmmmm. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX! Brent Tidaback [This message has been edited by Maxwell Plant (edited 14 April 2000).]
I'm pretty sure that the Pennsy would've run Bullet trains...But, I was thinking on a more realistic level about setting a tourist line. If I can get it running again, I have an Atlas/Rivarossi Indiana Harbor Belt Steam loco that was given to me in 1970. I could set it up with a couple of old heavy weight cars and run it up and down the Enfield and Eastern. Also, if space allows, perhaps set up a museum for some of my other old equipment both operating and not. John
Going MoPac again, I've got my SD60M in the Eagle scheme, and I think I'd like to do a stack train with containers in teh Eagle Merchandise scheme.
I am modeling modern era (70's to present) with BNSF and UP (with their fallen flags as well) as the home roads. Because I like steam as well as the modern locos I had to come out with a story (lie?) that I could make myself swallow. So, I moved the setting of my layout from Minnesotaish midwest west where large hills and small mountains reside (not quite in the rockies). For one the hills and mountains allow a scenic way to move trains from one level to the next. Second, those grades of 2% will be the reasons for some select steam to continue to operate in this division. In my world 2-8-8-2 mallets and 4-8-8-4 big boys will be used by the UP to tame the grades (and the look cool...that's a good business reason). There will also be some GN and NP engines ran by the BNSF that I have not figured out a story for yet. I really need to run a NP North Coast Limited train, they look so great!!! I am working on a story for this as well. By the way, a rail museum is a great idea! [This message has been edited by mtaylor (edited 15 April 2000).]

If you go to the BNSF forum, you'll see a post about a new and improved BNSF H-III I've come up with. It's a "Pumkin-Bonnet" that I'm going to do on a SD60M. ------------------ RAILROADING-TO-THE-MAX, Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Style! Brent Tidaback
Fantasy....... How about a C44-9W in the Hiawatha lightin' stripe Orange & Black? Could be used on unit coal trains out of Roundup on a present day layout. Not that far fetched! The Chief ------------------ .......MILWAUKEE........ "The Resourceful Road"
Yes Gary, they do........especially if lashed up together humming across the Great Plains at sunrise, just a little South of Minot, with 105 in tow! The Chief ------------------ .......MILWAUKEE........ "The Resourceful Road"
