An extra section of the CBBI, when the original train is already at maximum tonnage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
New York Central ran "Second" and even "Third" Sections of some popular passenger trains when bookings exceeded space available on the primary, or First Section. The Twentieth Century Limited was noted for running a Second Section from both LaSalle Street Station in Chicago and Grand Central Terminal in New York. The two Sections usually were situated across the same platform from each other. They also left at the same time, but then the Second Section was dispatched behind the First Section by one or two blocks during the entire run. The close separation was done because The Century was an "extra-fare" train. If the Century, including ALL Sections was more than 30 minutes late, the Extra Fare was refunded. (Extra Fare provided special treatment to those passengers who later would be known as the Jet Set during the 1950s and '60s.)
