Thought I'd share this construction project, both to show some new, for me, techniques and to get feedback on ways I can improve my work.

The first pic is just of the initial construction of walls.

Then the painting of interior walls to prevent light leakage if my plans to finish and illuminate the interior are realized.

    Next shows opposite walls

And then the test result of photographing exterior wall, flipping image, and then photoshopping the result to form an interior wall. Temporary attachment to ascertain the feasibility of this approach.

    Feedback welcome!!!!

I always enjoy following this type of topic. It is rare when I do not get a new idea, or learn a new trick/technique.

Thanks, btw I took the pick with a telephoto lens from about 6 ft to minimize parallax distortion. This test was done on plain white paper just to see how well it worked. I will probably do final interior walls on matte photopaper.

Woodland Scenics has a kit out which is quite similar and is called O'Learys Ice House. I was going to scratch build a small freight station to fit into a small spot but this building was just the right size for the space. I extended the loading dock due to the confined space an lack of outdoor dock space. A door opening was also cut to give better access to the loading dock. A floor was installed inside the building and will have freight inside when it is completed. Interior lighting will also probably installed.

Here is where it will eventually end up, a rather tight space. Never enough space on a layout.

This is a nice structure and I'm sure it can be used for many purposes.

I like the interior walls you did, nice touch.

Mine has been a work in progress for some time. Hoping to get it done by the end of the year. Just have way too many things going on.

Montanan, nice! I'm thinking I may have to open a door if I'm going to do any kind of internal finishing and lighting. I hear ya' on the "too many things going on."

The doors were open on the Woodland Scenics kit except for the one where the dock was extended. Apparently using some of the same molds. Any doors on this kit are separate castings. Looks like the DPM kit had the doors in the casting for the building. I just didn't install the door to the warehouse. Have to paint and install all of the windows for the Ice House kit.

Latest effort on interior (lots more to do). Matte board and foam board being used for flooring. Will be able to set depot down over or remove if maintenance needed.

Interior using one piece of matte board, two levels of foam board risers, and one piece of foam board for floor.

Floor from found on internet flooring, on plain white paper.

UHU stik glue used to adhere flooring.

    Looks "good enough".

As stated in "Weekend Modelling Accomplishments", Printed my DPM Freight Depot interior walls and rubber cemented them in place only to rip them out again. Had to paint the corners white, since black painted walls showed at seams and at windows edges. Also realized that glazing needed to be done first which requires external painting be done before that. Finished internal painting and half of external done. Getting there.

Going to go with approximate Northern Pacific colors, once again going for "good enough"!

Here a two pics of the interior white painting.

Now the masking of interior for external painting.

    Masking for painting lower portion.

    Pai

    And painting of lower portion.

Managed to get some stuff done even with Thanksgiving and a couple of days of entertaining an 8 yr old grandson. As stated earlier, I had to remove the printed walls due to issues with edges showing black for light block. Finally got back to the interior this weekend.

Glazing installed over white edging. Used Testors liquid cement which worked remarkably well considering. Only problem is that it liquifies the paint too much but still "good enough" for the purposes.

Walls reinstalled and they look much better. Glazing under paper is obvious from this view, but will be unnoticeable looking through windows.

Next steps will be to work on roof and install a ceiling on the floor assembly. Thinking 3 brass tubing uprights down center line and one wall between office and storage room. Entire building will lift off the floor/ceiling assembly.

Finally, more progress. Tried Campbell shingles and didn't like how they looked or the difficulty in adhering to styrene roof. Now trying to print my own. These pics show initial try with laser printer as proof of concept. Shading differences are probably printer, not image problem. Will now try color printing.

The shingles look good. I wouldn't sweat the shading differences, they actually end up looking like natural weathering.

Your trick for the interior walls is quite clever, I'm going to have to see if I've the means to pull it off
