I've purchased a used Atlas engine (N scale) that seems to come with a NCE decoder
Looks like it was never used though (I paid $50 for it)
I know I could just reprogram it, or at least test address #3
But still, how can I read the address of an unknown engine using DCC++ and JMRI?

    Thanks

You have to be using a motor shield that has current feedback. Then you should be able to read CVs on the programming track.

Note the “standard” Arduino motor shield does not have feedback.

OK, it was address #3.......worked right away, first time use with DCC++ and JMRI. Pretty exciting
However, 50% throttle was - I think - very slow.....is there something I should check?
    My power supply is 12v

I use a 15v supply with mine to get better performance from the atlas locos. Make sure if you do this that the Vin from the shield to the arduino is cut so you don't toast the arduino.
