    Hi.
Just need a bit of missing knowledge filling in. I've got some damaged Z scale railcars, including an Intermountain Covhop, that have had a bash on the exhibition layout this fall.. In the U.K when a vehicle was deemed beyond economic repair it was marked Cond X in large white letters to prevent re-loading, pending its fate. Usually being cut up on site or hauled 'one trip only' to a depot to be torched.

Is there a similar way of identifying similar vehicles in the USA?

I'm going to put them in the yard on the Dunsmuir section of my Shasta Route layout

    cheers
    Kev

Yes! Is the most immediate answer. Try a Yahoo, Google and/or Bing search for train cars/scrap yard and see what comes up.

Here's an example: Railroad Car Scrap Yards

Usually they draw a white line thru the car number and either place a sticker or stencil "Moving to be dismantled. Do not load." on both sides of the car.
