I've just competed this kit from Boulder Valley Models and I'm quite happy the way it turned out. Jim
That's awesome! You did an excellent job with that kit. I love Boulder Valley Models. I have a small On3 logging tram started and I used their shay kit.
Box, You are correct. Last layout should begin just after Labor Day. JimJ, Nice model. Is there a way to use N or Z scale chips? Love that roof. Jim
I'm sure you could but I painted the decoder flat black and added a black wall section which disguises it nicely.
Thanks but I apologize for the thread hijacking. Did the small details like the barrel and oil can come with the kit or from your parts bin? That's what makes these backwoods locos come to life.
JimJ, I don't worry about stuff like that very often. Good for you for spotting the oil can. I know I got it off epay, but I don't remember the seller. Same with lamp oil can. I know I did order only once as a bunch of stuff was included. In fact I think I will hunt this down and order another round. Jim
How does the drive train work? I don't see any driving wheels, so I'm assuming it is a geared locomotive. Which one of the three types is it most like? I think your model came out pretty good.
Mr. Trainiac, I couldn't access the Boulder Valley Models site just now. They are out of business so they may have shut their site down. This kit is built on top of an HO S12 or S2 diesel chassis can't remember which. So this is a great runner and heavy for On30. Great kit if you can find one. If you do try and contact me and will tell you how I put on the old time trucks over the diesel ones. I showed the owner my method and he said it was better and easier than his. Best of luck, Jim
He went to work for a large mail order dealer in Baltimore I read somewhere.. He didn't sell anything off mold wise, just wanted to work regular hours and not worry about anything.
