Wasn't too cold yesterday, around 20. This morning tho', she dropped to -16 or so!! That is a bit on the chilly side. Thankfully the wind ain't howling!
This old warrior was paired up with a MAC to do switching in the yard. And then I saw this lost Borg hiding behind stacked hay. And more shiny new tanks, am unfamiliar with the reporting mark.
And my first successful night video. Work going on to the 693 on the west end of the roundhouse. Lots of stored units around in the background.
It was/is a purty paint job! Saw a couple of other unusual units for this area on the point of an eastbound grain train,
Saw this interesting mix of grain hoppers westbound this morning during my daily rounds. And the lead unit was a pumpkin GE but these two were being dragged along for help! Haven't seen too many of these standard cab SD-70's, ever!
Half a dozen NOT brown grain cars at the front add interest to this eastbound waiting for power, And when the power shows up it is as interesting as that, two pair of GP pumpkins bracing a red/silver ex-SF GE, Then today this lost NS was captured in DP service at the rear of an empty coal train. Seems appropriate somehow..... And I finally caught someone working the pipeyard branch. It shows how the branch ascends and then the spur ascends back up like a switchback would. They were collecting the empty gon before using it to set out the loaded bulkhead flat. The the right you can see the spur for the oil tank farm, which also ascends up from the branch.
Got the opportunity on Wed evening to video a couple of trains. A westbound mixed train was setting and waiting most of the day, and when I had the chance to check later, I saw a westbound grain train heading down the Sidney branch towards the Yellowstone river bridge. So I quickly buzzes over there and videoed him . . . Then later got some more.....which I will put up later.
In keeping with IM's delivery of my new tanks, here's a shiny new oil can with a slightly less new one
There are those out there that wonder if every coal train is a "unit" train of all one owners cars. Well, todays coal empty is a case of multiple many owners, but mostly BN and BNSF of many years,
In all the years I have travelled to and from Billings, I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen a train go under the I-94 overpass on it's way to or from Sheridan, WY. This last week on our way home from there, we saw one on it's way east and I had time to catch it on video. For those that are modelling todays roads. it gives a good view of the top down.
This Coal load was heading out of town this morning, so I made a quick chase to catch it cresting the hill. Be careful with your volume, the rails are just screaming in protest!
Alan- CTCX is CIT Group ("Commercial Investment Trust"). Same outfit that has those silver leasers you see coming through on BNSF.
First views of an eastbound mixed train crossing Glendive creek, about mile east of town. I have used that bridge in many videos, but usually from a distance and from the south side.
