Yeah, my brother says I am spoiled by too many trains! And mostly it only requires a few minutes of time to catch one of these videos. So, maybe I am a little bit.....
There's still a lot of green around here! The set of power that is led by 7604 was itting in the siding and after the westbound with the NS unit wentg past, they had to start from a stop on an uphill grade. About 1.8%.
Got to catch a bit of this train leaving town today, until they stopped halfway out, you will hear the slack action at the end.
Am wondering how much longer we will be seeing eastbound coal on this line out of here. Colstrip's future is in serious doubt, and it seems to be a quickly dieing commodity. Anyway, here's just another one, being led by 3 GE's with one pushing from the rear. I didn't do the whole train this time
Yup! Dang, if it was only black, chuffing and blowing steam! Then I wouldn't get so confused by look alike toasters!
When you write "dead units ", do you mean "in storage status", or really out of order and waiting their final fate in the scrapyard ? Dom
Means they have been stored here for a year or more, probably in LUBO status, Laid Up, Bad Order. Usually that means it has a major equipment failure and they are unwilling to spend bux to fix it, so they store them with water drained, stacks covered and batteries out until they decide what to do. These were scattered all over the yard here and have been gathered up and stacked together in the yard, where they still sit as of yesterday. Eventually they will get shipped away to someplace for further disposition, wether repaired or scrapped.
Drove over to Miles City today to visit a freind in the VA over there. So, got in a little railfanning while going there and back again. The first vid is from Bluffport siding just east of Terry on the Milwaukees route. It is still well used, and the MOW crews are busy there. Here's a stack of equipment stored for the weekend:
Then on the way home, caught these two westbound grain trains only minutes apart, one on the old NP main and the second on the Milwaukee main. And the second,
