Nice variety of cars, love those trains! The hopper at 0:38, what is the name on it, had some type of placard sign on the side?
Just another V train. But the last car on the video is Conrail. And another one in the set shown is a KCS 125 years car.
Got to chase trains today. Not a lot of action, but did get this oilcan coming in early. Then later I spent a few hours chasing a grain train. It was inbound from out west with 4 units, stopping short of the west end of the wye. The 3rd and 4th unit were cut off and went to town. Thereafter the leaders got back on the train and took it up the Sidney branch to set the whole train on the super-elevator loop. FUN!
Hadn't noticed it, but it sounds like a moisture blowdown is just spitting away. They are only supposed to spit when the compressor starts or stops, but it is just doing a rat-a tat-tat!
It amazes me how many flat or spalled wheels I hear rolling along, and many cars are getting set out here for new wheels. Makes a fella wonder if the air is locking wheels or if handbrakes are being left set.
Had a lot of time this last week to get pictures of trains and snow! This morning the river is frozen up and has risen up to nearly the top of the dike. Hopefully it won't go higher!
Yup! That guy is up at the Frontier Gateway Museum here in Glendive. A freind of mine got it from the RR and organized getting it there. I need to get over there this spring and reseal the roof.
On the way home from Billings, spotted the headlight from a long way off. And then got stopped across the interstate from a good overlook, jogged over , climbed up the hill keeping my eyes peeled for snakes out early on this warn day, and shot this vid. I always try to get trains on this bend of the Yellowstone because of the great view of the tracks and river together.
Hi - thanks for these. First train of empties has 3 units up front, one at the rear. Second fully loaded train has two units at the front and two at the rear. Is there a method to that difference in distribution of the power units? (Maybe not all under power for the empties?) Thanks Donald Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Not usually, it is just a convenience thing for the crews. It is amazing how often power gets robbed from one train to help another elsewhere, then when it is needed again, someone else gets robbed. So, most likely, one of the DP units at the rear got stolen by another train, then a third unit got picked up by the empty and just added to the front until it is convenient to put it to the rear, probably at the loader.
And another coal train crossing a bridge eastbound out of Glendive. This bridge is across the street from Subway, which makes that a great place to sit and eat while watching trains!
