I am planning to go to the Rochelle Railroad Park, but what is the best time to see the most trains? Are there any other places around that I should also visit? I don't really do a lot of railfanning, so I'm inexperienced.
I do not have a good answer for best time, but the lines tend to have trains through on a regular basis. Depending on how far you want to travel, Galesburg offers some good railfanning, especially on Threllkill Road bridge. It overlooks the BNSF yard. The line through Dekalb in & out of Chicago is often quite busy.
