I am here to sing the praises of Bachmann Trains. As I had outlined in earlier posts, I was having trouble with a point to point Auto Reverse Controller that runs a trolley on a small desktop layout. After receiving gracious assistance from members on the board (Marty Ruprecht in particular) I was at a loss. As a last resort I mailed the controller, which was out of warranty, back to Bachmann. One week later I received a repaired controller with an invoice for $0.00. This is the kind of service one hopes for but rarely receives. I am a happy puppy! I would like to add that my telephone calls with them were courteous, caring and efficient.
Still waiting for Bachmann to supply a replacement motor for my Metroliner with the "lifetime" guarantee.
Lots of luck guys. I'm plenty burned out and prefer to purchase other name brands. Still have fun...as long as it lasts.
Yeah, their definition of 'lifetime' varies a bit. Just as some of their products are, how to put it, more equal than others? I made a circle of HO track to circle the Christmas tree, supported by a few 32" brass rods wedged between the trunk and branches. Their Brill trolley would invariably eat its soft gears in a couple of Christmas seasons, added oil or no added oil. But the San Francisco cable car just runs forever. The power truck wheelbases are the same, too. For the life of me I'll never understand why they don't use the same mechanism for both.
All I know is, the Bachmann Decapod I got 12 years ago looks awesome, and runs like a Rolex watch. I'm toying with the idea of adding DCC and sound to this little Bolshevik (what the Frisco men called the Russian Decapods).
