My name is Neil and hopelessly addicted to model trains. My old drafting studio has been converted to a world in 1/4” scale using On30 Bachmann engines and a mix of equipment that portrays some of my idea of Hawaii plantation life c1900.
This summer I’ve gotten back in the garden and hope to get some trains running there before the weather and vegetation overcome me! Thanks for stopping in to say hello.

Thank you gents! I usually post on the MRH forum but this site looks like there is a lot to offer.

Today was spent assembling Llagas Creek “flex” track using aluminum rail.

I don’t see a way to rotate an image here so may have to create a Flickr account.

We have been here since 1997. Maybe we’ve met? It is hard to leave and my idea of a vacation is to stay at home.

    Thanks for saying hello!

Welcome aboard! When you refer to plantation, is it safe to assume you mean sugar cane?

Sugar is a big part of the layout but so are pineapples, cattle, coffee, and tropical fruits. I even am working on a partly 3-d hotel that the OR&L built on Oahu to draw riders.

One thing that didn’t get included were sugar cane trains and I regret not making space for that. Recent thoughts of adding a hidden helix to come up to a second deck started to sound good but the work and all that hidden track have me doubting my sanity.

Welcome aboard, Neil. I love the place where you live. Hope Kiluea slows down soon.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

I had the good fortune of visiting your oh-so-fair state just a couple of years ago. Magnificent. I hope Kilauea isn't giving you much trouble, but I *am* wondering if you've considered modeling a lava flow somewhere on your layout?

    Thanks!

I forgot to mention seafood! A packing plant seems a natural!

Fits: Thanks! We’ve been here most of my adult life and can’t imagine living elsewhere. Kilauea has been erupting a long time and I don’t expect i it to quit for quite a while. Never a dull moment!

Here is a flow from 2104!

Twindad - I’m pretty sure your the same that I’d been following years ago with your exploits into train electronics?

My wife suggested a flow as part of the layout as well so a trip up the mountain to get some pahoehoe is in order. It’s amazing that a rock that flowed 150 years ago looks like it was molten yesterday.

Not sure how to rotate an image here but these are a couple pieces from years ago with Lefty up there for scale.

    Welcome aboard, Neil!
It seems you approach the hazard of the volcanoes in your backyard the way we northerners approach a blizzard. I would love to see more of your modeling!

Hi Neil, Welcome. On MRH, when I talk about "other model railroad forums I've been on" I usually mean this place. We've been around a long time.

Thanks Yoho. This format is easier to follow as well. I do have issues with formatting pics though. Of course I’m on my iPhone so there is probably the issue.

I need to decide what to post where I guess. My current project is the garden line if that has interest I could start a new topic. My On30 line went through some dramatic changes last weekend when the hills came out to make room for a town. Slow but sure or a little every day seems to get things moving forward.

    BTW What’s a blizzard? ;)
