Nomadic was one of two vessels commissioned by the White Star Line in 1910 to tender for their new ocean liners RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic, which were too large to dock in Cherbourg harbor. She and her running mate SS Traffic ferried passengers, their baggage, mail and ship's supplies to and from large ocean liners moored offshore. This model of the SS Nomadic is specially built as a companion to Graupner’s 1:150 scale Titanic. It is available as a full hull or waterline model in the scale of 1:150. It is also available as a waterline model in 1:160 and 1:220. See https://nscaleships.com/n-z-scale-ship-index/nomadic-tender-to-titanic-in-1150-1160-and-1220/ for more details.
That’s awesome. I’ve been a Titanic Nut since I read A Night To Renember back in ‘75. I even joined the Titanic Historical Society when I was 11. I’m still a fanatic.
It has been restored and is still in operation in Cherbourg. Or is at least a museum ship there. It was in service for many years. It was very difficult to engineer this model of a very elegantly designed ferry boat.
Another Titanic nut. Thanks Pete and I believe there are photographs somewhere of the tenders servicing the Titanic before the voyage. Doug
Lots of photos and drawings. This ship was DESIGNED to look elegant doing a fairly pedestrian chore. The hull form is overly complex for a ferry. And it doesn't carry near enough life boats (like the Titanic) for its capacity. But I am not familiar with Cherbourg harbor.
Hi, all I can say the Nomadic is doing fine and is on display at the Harland and Wolf shipyard in Belfast. I saw it this summer when my wife and family visited Belfast. It is at the Titanic museum. A great take for anybody interested in the Titanic. The Nomadic is the last surviving White Star Line ships. Also at the sprawling site of the Harland and Wolf shipyard is the studio that produces "Games of Throne." On the other side of the Lagan River is the world's largest ongoing waterfront development. Belfast is a marvelous city, rich with history and proud of it. I wish I had a waterfront layout that could support a model such as this. Maybe I can talk myself into building a waterfront diorama/module.....Jim in Boston
