I installed my eco 100 in a dcc bachmann sd 40-2. I pulled the factory board out, installed the eco with just track and engine, no lights or sound yet. When I apply power, the engine moves and immediately goes into 9 flashes (overheat). There doesn't appear to be any binding, as the engine moves as soon as it has track power.

The decoder is just "floating" in the air right now. I will try a heat sink but it goes into overheat the second it gets track power. Can it overheat that quickly.

I did research this prior to asking for help. Other than heat sink/paste "I've got nothing"

That sucks. Kinda takes the shine off the experience.

Does sound like a defective decoder. I belong to the Yahoo SoundTraxx DCC group and yet to hear of a overheating issue with all the discussions about this new decoder. The older 750 had this issue.

Did you fill out a Service Request Form?
That would give them your name and e-mail- phone contact information. To whom did you speak with?- Call back and ask to speak to that person- check stats of your decoder.
The times that I have had to return a defective decoder the turnaround was a week or so.
Most of the time I have had very good support for any issues I ran into.

The decoder was wired wrong, because there was a short somewhere. How do I know? The same thing happened to me. There was a short somewhere and it got VERY hot within about 3 seconds of applying track power. You'll need a new one. I doubt Soundtraxx will supply you a new one because that one was not wired right.

Peter, what's the status of your return of the Econami?

I've had poor experiences with Soundtraxx Tsunami's in certain cases indicating overheating when the measured current draw was well within specifications.

I hope this is not a common problem with the Econami.

Just be sure when you get the new one to wire it correctly and use heat shrink tubing and insolate.

I tried an Econami 100 .... install went well .... ran for about 10 minutes and then gave a 9 flash overheat warning. Got an RA from Soundtrax .. sent it back Priority on 5/11 .. sent an email inquiry on 5/25 didn't get an answer until 6/9 .. today is 6/22 I have heard nothing and do not have my decoder. Not what I would call good customer service .... never again will I use Soundtrax.
