1. Why is it that some MRC 1812 decoders have decent volume and some do not ..... same engine and installation!!!! 2. Can someone please explain what CV setting controls the delay when going into reverse? I have one engine with an MRC 1811 decoder ...... when I hit reverse, it stops for about 6 seconds before starting in the opposite direction ..... is it a momentum setting?
1. I think the CV settings are different. That's the only difference, or that you're perceiving a difference in volume. 2. I don't think that MRC has a delay when switching from forward to reverse.
I have a problem with all six of my Digitrax decoders having a delay of anywhere from six to as much as ten seconds when changing direction. I have twelve locos with TCS decoders and they just come to a slow stop and after about one second they start slowly in the opposite direction. I have asked at both LHS's that I buy decoders at and have got nothing in the way of useful suggestions. I've also scoured Digitrax' web site and have found no mention of anything resembling this problem. That is part of the reason I only have six Digitrax decoders and won't have any more.
1. You didn`t say what system are you using. 2. You can check CV`s 3 and 4 ,they should read 0 for no momentum.
Thank you for the reply ........Using NCE Powercab ........ CV 3 & 4 are set to 0 ...... problem persists
Maybe do a factory reset? Set CV 125 to 1. Then maybe hit F12 (on the NCE system, SHIFT+F12 at bottom), and that should max out the volume.
gatrhumpy: Thank you again ...... went through that drill, problem persists. At this point I can only feel that it is a defective decoder since, as I stated originally I have other 1812 installs that have acceptable volume (for MRC that is!) ...... if I don't hear back from MRC, my next step will be to install an 8 ohm speaker and see what that does ........ not the best solution, yet since I have experience with hard wiring decoder installs it gripes me that it nullifies the "drop in" convenience of the MRC decoder ........
OK, so just to finalize this ..... I installed an 8 ohm cell phone speaker with a partial enclosure (due to limited space [but still had to mill some of the frame]) .. volume is better but still nowhere near that of a Loksound install. So with at least a dozen MRC sound engines running ... I am beginning to sour on MRC decoders.
If you are using a cell phone speaker element and are not using a sound chamber, you will not get very much volume and the sound will be lacking in bass. Most of the cell phone speakers require a sealed chamber.
