Hi all I have applied to a few locations with UP and have been invited to a hiring event in oregon. can anyone give me insight as far as what i can expect from the event? I went to one with bnsf so is it similar to that? also what is the chance of furlough. the position is in hermiston, or thanks in advance
Very Similar, BNSF has system wide senority from a line at Greybull WY to Lacrosse WI everything south of that line you can bid to or "chase your senority". In the event of furlough, BNSF you can chase your senority to a location you can hold and keep your job. UP has closed senority districts, where you hire out is where you hire out. and chance of furlough are is alot greater than BNSF. Last time I checked South Morrill NE still had people on furlough from 2010, but that senority district is very small.
thanks for the help BN fan!! I went ahead and accepted the invite from UP for hermiston, Or. any info on that service district? My searches have come back nearly negative. from the aerial view, the yard there looks to be fairly large though.
Senority Districts I am not sure of their senority districts out there. I do know that is a beautiful place to work, Columbia River Gorge to the west and the Blue Mountains to the east. I used to live out there.(The Dalles)
very nice!!! gonna go up there and hopefully get the opportunity to interview but not gonna get my hopes up like i did with bnsf. if it works out great, if not well then oh well
What did you apply for? I'm in the mechanical department in Denver. We (mechanical) don't have to worry as much about furloughs than what crews do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
so i interviewed over 24 hours ago and still haven't heard anything back…any idea how long up takes to respond? another railroad notified me less than 24 hours later that i wasn't selected to proceed
If you're selected, they'll tell you the same day you interview. If you haven't heard by now, you haven't been selected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just a quick update, I was hired and now hold a class 8 license. 2 weeks of CIT left and then furlough Ps: SD70's are garbage!
Congratulations on getting hired on! Hope things keep moving well and the economy doesn't get in the way.
Oh yea? I guess you guys don't have the Dash 9s or the old standard cab C40-8's where you're at. Those make the SD70's look luxurious. Do you have an AW board where you're at? That's where you work two days a week as an FOT, enough to keep you insured and the union dues paid.
i I haven't seen any of those two up here...mostly just sd70 and the c44's. and negative our local union decided to vote the AW board up here i guess cuz the pre 85 guys didn't like it
