Hello Everyone: I headed out on June 8th 2014 to do some Birthday Railfanning my Birthday was on June 7th I turned 25 years old! Here is the video of all the trains I caught on Sunday. Enjoy! Video link:
Nice way to have a memorable day! What was the slow moving KCS train, with two diesels and a tank car? Anything special? Or just a normal local operation?
Great stuff! I really liked catching an eagle on one of the boxcars and that consist that was entirely KCS - how rare is that?
Aaron, Happy Birthday and great videos, thanks. Do you know which railroad is installing the new signals at the CSX/KCS diamond? I noticed a new signal on CSX east of the diamond yesterday, then your video shows a new one on KCS south of the diamond. I don't understand why one railroad would be responsible for installing signals on both CSX and KCS tracks. Also they look like the same signals that CSX has been recently installing elsewhere. Re: Ken's question, was that an empty chlorine car coming from the DuPont titanium dioxide plant? If so, maybe the two locos were needed to take a bunch of Ilmenite ore cars out to the plant.
Thank you. CSX is installing the new signals on the KCS and on their own railroad. The reason for these new signals is so KCS won't have to deal with the Derail when the new signals are in operation KCS will just keep going across the interlocking and not having to deal with the derails. They are the same signals just like what CSX has on their side of the interlocking. That one train with the 2 KCS engines and the tank car that was the DuPont Titanium Dioxide Plant switcher they left the yard with 37 chlorine tank cars to bring to the plant. I was un-able to catch that move but I ended up catching them heading back to the yard with only one tank car.
Aaron, a belated happy birthday to you, and thank you for sharing your video with us. May I ask what kind of equipment you are using? Apparently a very stable tripod, which made those video runbys so stable to view. Nice job.
Thank you Sir. I am using a Sunpack 7500 TM Tripod and a JVC HD Everio Camcorder. And for my pictures I am using a Canon EOS Rebel T3 DLSR Camera.
Just for fun, I've searched up that tripod. It's a nice one. Seems to have really good reviews. Makes my old beast seem quite clunky!
