6th Annual Ohio N-Scale Weekend, Columbus Ohio, May 16th-18th. Who's going?

Got a GG1 and decoder for 134.00 not too bad I think. Saw a Hallmark 2-10-2 for 310.00 and thought about it for a long time, but decided to pass for now. I did order a Power Cab from my LHS today though for 175.00. Finally coming into the modern age....LOL ......Mike

 

I'll see who from the club had their camera out when not running trains or buying out the vendors. I wasn't able to make it today but will be there Sunday for a bit. Hopefully the guys in the club and those in attendance left me something to spend a few bucks on. I might even be able to get them to post them on our Facebook page for Central Ohio N-Trak.

 

Great Show. Nice to see many different modular groups and vendors. Can't wait for the next one! Does anyone know of other N scale shows in the Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky areas?

 

I was there for a bit. I believe there were 7 modular layouts there. Some real talent in some of the modules. I hope it inspires me to get to the basement more.

I bought a caboose and some MT trucks. I probably spent as much in gas as I did at the show.

 

Great show, with many great trains running the layouts. Best for me was a single Bachman EM-1 pulling 109 coal cars. Some spectacular container and passenger consists, a double-stack pulling about 50 cars, about a 50-car passenger plus auto carriers train, lots of little steam pulling great loads. Very nice to meet all who stopped by and introduced themselves.

 

Another great show. Not as many venders there this year but the Ohio guys told me that was by design because the show is geared for the participants rather than the general public as are regular trains shows. With a limited number of participants they wanted the venders who were there to be able to sell. And sell they did. I was able to get my six MT B&O hoppers before someone bought up the last 90 or so. Also got twelve old Aurora CN bulkhead flat cars (less trucks/couplers) that are probably foobs but at $4.00 for the bunch will make good practice material for painting, detailing and what not.

If I had to rank the top three factors of why I go and recommend that others go also, it would be as follows:

1. Best part was the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. It is not hard to make new friends at these get togethers. Everyone has so much in common.

2. New ideas are always on display, especially scenery. The learning experience of just talking with others and asking, "How did you do that?" might give one another, possibly better, perspective on how to do things.

3. A chance to get away and just run trains. After all, that is what it is all about.

 

We didn't get to stay for very long, but I actually was having so much fun checking things out (and shopping!) that I forgot to take pictures.

I did get a few, though...

Here's the (small) haul of cars I bought. Great deals on all of them, some of them interesting (to me) vintages that I hadn't expected. For example, the back beer can tank is actually a Roundhouse kit, not an Atlas. And the "Honey" tank came heavily weathered for only $6!

I was very pleased to make the in-person acquaintance of Pete Nolan. His models are even more awesome in person than in photos. Makes me want to model a harbor scene. His wife was very nice, too.

I really wish I'd taken more pictures. The rest of the layouts were every bit as cool as Dayton's. It was fun to see the wife and kids take off and wander, looking at their own stuff-of-interest, and having a good time, rather than just dutifully following along behind me, wiping up my drool. I think that really speaks to the quality of the layouts. The vendors on hand were all very pleasant and good to talk with.

I didn't get any pictures, but the guy from "eSPee" who was selling kits (and complete cars) to make track cleaning cars had a really neat demo layout that was automated with a Bachmann Auto-Reversing controller and some homebrew spring switches. Very, very neat, and just one more example of the cool stuff there.

I've already booked 2015 in my calendar.

Sorry... no videos available that I know of. I asked my friend to get one next time they are set up.

The crane traverses on rails along the tracks, rotates, raises and lowers both the boom and cable, and the electromagnet turns on and off. TwinBoy spent several minutes loading hopper cars with it. Great fun.

 

Here are some photos I took in order to get some weathering ideas. I like the rust look on the roof of the Burlington XM and the faded lettering on the Pennsy XM along with the rusted roof on the feed and farm.

 

I probably would do more to remove the circles where the roofwalk was mounted, but I too like the rust on the BREX car. Thanks for sharing the photos!
