I have never seen any good polls so far, so i thought i would post this, also I am going into ho scale with passenger trains, this poll may help influence me: i am doing both commuter and amtrak, and i cannot decide what amtrak loco to use please please please no flaming that's not what i wanted
I voted E/F, as those best fit my favorite era. Poor, old worn out units from the 1971 startup... But I could have just as easily gone with "other", thinking of the Milwaukee Road electric motors, such as their Bipolar. Ha ha. Well, I know those were well before Amtrak.
Is it Amtrak or is it Santa Fe? It's both. I got to ride behind Santa Fe warbonnet F-units on the Amtrak Texas Chief in early June 1973 just weeks before the SDP40Fs came in. Like getting to ride the real-life version of the Lionel Santa Fe set I had as a kid. And now modeling it in N scale.
I don't see the poll but I can give you some amtrak ideas. For long distance trains you have two choices of trains. Super liner equipment or single level equipment such as view liners, amfleet II, and heritage. For corridor equipment there is a lot more to choose from. Amfleet I, heritage, horizon, California cars (a more modern super liner with 2 vestibules), talgo. For locomotives: P42, P40, dash bw32, f40 (converted to cabbage cars), f59 (??), aem-7, hhp8, and now the new Siemens electric loco (forget the name). Using the p40 and p42 there are 5 heritage units to choose from. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
I voted for E/F units, but I noticed the list doesn't include FM Erie-Builts, or any of the Milwaukee Road's famous electric passenger power.
What an impossible poll to vote on! I can pick favorites from different eras, but to choose THE favorite passenger locomotive of all is difficult. Current? P42. Earlier? E-8. Don't see the Alco PA listed, that was a beautiful passenger locomotive.
getting started i just ordered 2 some superliners and i want to get the california/surfliner cars by union station products, but i keep losing ebay auctions for amtrak LOCOs :frustrated: ebay can be a jerk sometimes, hopefully i can get the athearn f59phi for amtrak west because we have those around here
Try trainworld in New York. I found they had some in stock. Also you can get some through the amtrak store on amtrak.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
And the trend continues. Specifying an era would be a good start to creating a poll that makes some sort of sense.....
I saw a p42 on ebay that was listed with a very generic title, hopefully no one finds that one and i can get it because it is only $30
I didn't see my favorite..........the FP45, which corresponds to my favorite freight loco, the F45, which DID seem to appear in your poll..........so I voted "other"
New York Central S-Class Niagara, followed immediately by NYC J-Class Hudson. In other words, I voted "Other".
