    I see a new paint ( new to me ) from Rustolem ( no finanical intrest in the company ) and they have out a texture spray called American Accents Stone. comes in four different shades of brown stone. Kinda looks like granite . Has any one experimented with it to see if it might have use/s in modeling ?

    Yes. It does have some use in limited amounts. Stinks like crazy. I used it as an under coat for my badlands and it looked good.

    This type of spray has been around for quite a few years. I think one of the first ones is called Flex-Stone. I t could be found in arts and craft stores or even big box stores like Home Depot. Some people used it to refinish old furniture, etc. Below are a few shots from over ten years ago showing some of the colors;

    RE: Textured Stone spray pain

    Some of the blacker colors can represent asphalt. Also, very useful to use under switches and other locations where ballast might be light.

    Be careful. If memory serves me, I believe this paint will eat through syrofoam pretty quickly. Probably o.k. for other materials.

    I've used it - and you're right about it going thru styrofoam -unless the foam is sprayed with gray primer or another paint first. Mountains and rock formations look good first sprayed with a flat black followed by the lighter colors. Also it seems like there is about half the paint other rattle cans have in them.

    Back in 97 when we rebuilt our module yard, we laid the track down and then covered it tape. I used the dark brown Flex-Stone to represent the ballast on our yard.

    We had some negative comments about using paint for ballast, but there was no way I was going to try and ballast a 16' yard that had 18 tracks!
    We'd never be able to lift it and the ballast would probably flake and lift it off and wind up looking like crap.
    I've got the yard included in my layout right now and it still looks as good as the day we sprayed it on.

    Here's a shot from the blog, you can see the texture, and in some places I let the paint settle on the Atlas turnout motors to kind of hide them. It's not the greatest effect, but it works.

    Now that's it's in a home layout, I might actually ballast it, but it's way down on my list of things to do.
