this is one of the old pax cars the TRA still uses sometimes. narrow guage over there. i assume these are built by the japanese. do you guys know if this was ever made in n scale or maybe something from the usa that looks similar that i can repaint?
Looks a lot like the old JR series 10 carriages: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10175550a8/20/8 Or a Ohafu 33 series carriage: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10178576a/20/1 I would just browse through Hobby Search until you see something that fits. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1706/0/1 Hope that helps. --Michael
There is a Taiwanese company called Touch Rail http://www.touch-rail.com.tw/ that makes N scale models of Tawanese trains, I bought a freight and passenger set while I was there in 2009 but I think their availablity outside Taiwan is pretty non-existant. They don't appear to make that particular coach but as madleech says there might be a Japanese car that would be a good stand in. Because the Japanese did much to improve the country's railways during their occupation a lot Taiwanese rolling stock owes its design heritage to the Japanese even if it wasn't actually built in Japan as well as similar operating practices and infrastructure including the 3'6" gauge. One thing though that Taiwan has but Japan does not is lots of EMD export model diesels.
yea i looked at kato and microace's offerings and while that JR series 10 is the closest thing possible, it doesnt have enough windows. i may buy it anyways. westfalen - i do have touchrail models here and yea they dont make that particular coach or any of the vintage stuff. what is it about that japanese car you mentioned? all i see is a magazine you linked me to. so no usa coaches look remotely like it huh.
I had no idea what you were talking about at first because I didn't add that link, I just typed 'Japanese car' and it got turnrd into a link.
haha interesting. anyways i went ahead and got some "oha 47" cars (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10163974). they dont look as great as the HO scale ones madleech posted but thats ok. ill probably just mod them. Just need a "ohafu" car now to complete the tail end of my trainset. these cars are expensive once shipping is factored in! all i need really are some steps like the ones found right under the doors on harriman coaches. does anyone know what those are called and if they come already prebuilt? otherwise ill just build some out of styrene.
