I saw these NZT Ground Throw Kits today while browsing the Stonebridge Models website. I can't tell if they are operational in any sense, but it'd be cool if they had operating targets. They looked real cool, so I thought I'd share.
They are very cool (but not operational). David K. Smith is doing an awesome job putting out some great details: I really like the "backsaver" ground throw. Not sure if you could get the target to move. But they would make good realistic "covers" over slide switches used to throw turnout points. You'd just have to use a toothpick or skewer to press the slide switch handle from either side.
Might be quite a long time. Consider that the NZT ground throws are to scale. In N, they're about the size of the average house fly. The lever is roughly 1/8-inch long, and the targets are just slightly larger than a healthy flea. That's a tall order to make such a tiny thing functional. About the best one could do, maybe, is make the targets move when the switch is thrown. But even then, they're so small you'll need magnification to convince anyone they are moving.
really nice. too bad I already have Caboose ground throws in place and would have to do a major engineering project to change the way to operate my turnouts.
David- "...In N, they're about the size of the average house fly...." My initial thought was that has to be one big fly and then I looked at the info from your post and noted that you live in New Jersey. That explained it.
My ground throws kit showed up today and I am excited, the parts are tiny! I'm always a little hesitant of new parts, but I'm going to get these together and get some more ordered before the stores dry up!
