I was just wondering how many N scale clubs there are. I am not talking about Ntrak or any other modular clubs that do set ups and tear downs on any given weekend but honest to goodness clubs complete with a building and a 'permanent layout' [an oxymoron to be sure] and all the trappings of their HO scale counterparts. My guess is that most N scale clubs are modular using Ntrak or some other type of modular design. That is probably because I know of no permanent N scale club in my area. We have three modular clubs but no 'permanent layout' club. Also, I recall there was some listing of Nscale clubs at one time on the internet but I'm drawing a blank in trying to find it. Is there such a listing?
Seems as though I once saw something- A site or list. But it was a few years back. Nothing is coming into mind right now.
Cyberspace World Railroad Check out the Cyberspace website: http://www.cwrr.com/nmra/Cluba-NR.html for a listing of PA clubs. Looks like there is a club south of you. Don't expect every club to be listed. You can usually find out the location of any local club if you ask around your Local Hobby Shop. There is going to be a NMRA, Mid-Central Region Convention in Pittsburgh April 26th thru 29th. Check out: http://www.highlinetopittsburgh.org/ There may be other Model Railroad Club lists, I did a Wikipedia & Google search and there appears to be several websites that have such lists.
Not really a complete list but there is this list on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_model_railroad_clubs#External_links. Also, there is the T-Trak club list at http://ttrak.wikidot.com. I know of a couple of Texas N-Scale and one Oklahoma club with permanent space and layouts in place. I believe all three are NTrak layouts. The Oklahoma Club (OK N-Rail) also has a T-Trak layout in their permanent space.
There's this one: http://www.wix.com/m_chilson/ohiovalleylines Located in the Old Economy Village of Ambridge. They're in the process of building a large permanent N-Scale layout in the basement of their building. I was assisting on Monday evenings about a year ago until my work schedule changed. Mike
Inkaneer In South-Ease Virginia - The Peninsula Model Rail Road Club - Newport News, VA (see http://www.nnprrc.org/) in an N-scale club with a club house and are working on a permanent layout. From their web site: "The PMRRC is an N-Scale model railroad club in Newport News, Va. At the present, we are in the process of building a new layout. The layout is 16.5 feet by 22 feet, and represents the area extending for Newport News to Richmond, during the Steam to Diesel era of the late 50's to early 60's. The layout is shaped like an 'E'. The entire layout is DCC operational." I'm on my fourth N-Trak club (still on active duty and moving around). Most of the clubs have sub groups that do N-Scale but not N-Trak (T-Track, TwiN-Trak, BeNd-Track, ...). Check with a club for sub groups. Allegheny
I believe Mike Fifers Southern New Mexico N Scalers (N) is going to be permanant...although utilizing 4’ X 8’ modularly designed tables. Will be a nice size layout at 32’ X 12’ :tb-cool:
In Houston there is the Houston N Crowd. They got rid of all their NTRAK modules and have a permanent layout in a hobby shop. http://houstonncrowd.org/
You may find something of interest on this page. http://www.railserve.com/ or http://www.railserve.com/Models/Clubs/North_America/
We Are Permanent Our club started as a N Trak club with no permanent home. While we still have an N Trak layout, we own our own building and have a permanent layout.
I think the link you're looking for is: http://www.nscaleclubna.com/ There is an N scale club, Moffat Modelers, in Denver located in the Forney Museum with a very large layout. Denver to the Moffat tunnel. Ok it's not large, it's HUGE. There are several in the San Fransisco Bay area.
Isn't the Forney museum where the HO scale layout that depicts the Oregon, California, & Eastern RR is located? Or is that somewhere else in Colorado?
That's up in Greeley. The Forney is next to I70 and has the BigBoy on display along with a bunch of other interesting stuff, both rail and non-rail.
The above list was last updated in September of 2009. I'm not sure they are still maintaining it. I plan to contact them as the web address for our club is incorrect. Pete
That would be good. I was kinda surprised the link still worked. I really need to check some of my "favorites". I see others that are not correct anymore. It's got to be a huge task to keep the list current.

I think assuming that clubs with a modular component don't also have a "clubhouse" is a bit flawed. Portland Area N-Trak has a clubhouse at Alpenrose Dairy where we have an N-Trak main loop, but it stays more or less permanently hooked up. It's been over five years since we removed or replaced any modules in this main loop, but, in theory, we could pop any of them out and take it to a meet-up and run. We also have what we call the "red line extension" which is much more free-form, some based on oNeTrak ideas and some just freelanced. We have a traveling layout for taking to shows in addition to the "home layout." The other N scale club I can think of at the moment in my area is Columbia River N Scalers. They are in the basement of the Hobbysmith. Much of the layout is to an N-Trak standard but not all of it, and it also stays more or less permanently joined up as a layout. I think the Tualatin Valley club has found a new home but it's been a while since I talked to any of those guys I don't really know.
Orlando N-Trak is a name only. They have 3 acres of property and a 30'x60' layout room in their own building. Half the room is n-scale, the other half USED to be N-Trak but I believe they trashed all these modules. They do have a traveling layout that is being designed with ease of set-up/tear-down (I believed they speed tested the layout and had it truck to running in less than 30 minutes. Wayne
I finally got a web site up and we are getting ready to have the ceiling painted black on tuesday. http://www.las-cruces-model-railroad-clubs.com/ Thanks Guys , Mike
