Between working on the new version of Ztrains.com and getting used to a new camera, not much time right now but I did snap a quick photo of the rear wall of the RSLaser brick building. I'm very excited about this! I know Rich from RSLaser is at a show now but I do think this will be a kit very soon. I'm building this as part of a new RDC diorama along with kits from a few other makers. The lintels and sills actually appear to protrude a bit due to the surrounding mortar lines being etched... a very subtle but cool effect. John Ztrains
Not sure exactly as Rich is now on the east coast at a show. I'm assuming when he gets back these will start up in production... end of January / beginning of February... John Ztrains
Hi All John just IM'd me and told me about this. Yes I'm in Cobleskill NY right now on the the Amherst/ Springfield show in the morning. Then down the the show in Timonium the following weekend. Then the long drive back to Oregon. I have the test builds with me and will have them at both shows for you to look at. Do have some drawings here and will be working on different options for it. So if your at any of the two shows look me up. rich www.rslaserkits.com
VERY nice. I know it takes a heckuva lot longer to raster but . . . those can make some really nice castings. John, get a 100mm macro lense and a basic light box (cowboystudio, adarama, etc.com) you need to shoot pix from as far away and keep the image from going to the extreme corners of the view, this will give you the proper persectives. .
Jeff, good photo tips though I think the 100mm macro and light box is probably overkill for a quick P&S shot. Still, starting a thread on Z photography wouldn't be a bad idea.
No doubt that the P&S (point and shoot) in-close macro can show off the detail for the posts. When you really want a product shot tho, need to backaway and zoom in. I still use the Ph.D. (push here dummy) camera for most work. Any light works for them .
If these go as hoped there will be more for sure. Have a few ideas I want to try on them. Plus John has not shown the best part in my eyes yet. Just got in from setting up for the Amherst show and WOW. Any one of the four building is larger then any show I have been to on the west coast will see how sales go in the morning but think it will be a good show as the weather is working in our favor rich www.rslaserkits.com
Rich, Just a suggestion- could it be possible to have taller buildings by stacking, having horozontal cornice ( whatever it's called ) covering the seam of the two buildings. When is the show at " Timonium, Hon" --that's Balmereese-- Fred
Hey Fred you are reading my mind, that is one thing I hope to work out on this trip. Thinking of offering the base kit as a first and top floor then have stack able add on units. As for the Timonium show it is next weekend, which help make the 6000 plus mile round trip doable. hope to see you there rich RSLaserKits Contact Us For High Quality Laser Cut Kits For Model Railroaders
That looks very promising. However, I would like to point this lovely kit out to those of you who like bricks: http://www.mehbu-lasertechnik.de/on...nfo=p67_Gro-es-Stadthaus-fuer-die-Spur-Z.html Check the backside of this building. Lovely bricks. The lasered cardboard is very nice material to work with and the kits is great for bashing. Perfect fit. Matt
Wysiwyg, John. I guess we could ask them. They offer custom made service for windows. G**gle helped me translate the text next to pic with the eurocent: "Dear customers, windows to the desired size and color choice made! The windows are manufactured to your specified dimensions from us. The first 10 special cost per piece € 1.50 each additional box 0,45 € per piece. The photo can be seen as an illustrative example. Please tell us your request using our contact form (contact button) or by telephone. Your MEHBU laser technology team." I ordered in imperfect German, order was processed nicely. However, I just got 2 of the kits, have no experience with the custom service. Matt
I just looked over their website. The about me page says it's proprietor is Lisa Smuda, and while growing up her brother showed no interest in trains, but she did, and she was the train gal of the family. Now she is a laser gal like Karin Snyder!
I met them at a show and they are really nice folks. I have that building and the bricks are nice. When I talked to them about a year or so ago they seemed willing to do more Z things. This is a very typical german type building found in any small city to large ones. I thought of trying to convert it to an American type, but it is too nice a building for me to cut up.
Rich, Looking forward to see what you come up with so I can create something like this: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4067/4330018394_ed8e11550b.jpg John
