I was a train show and the wife saw this C&O boxcar and offered to buy it for me. How could I hurt her feelings and say no? Here is a picture of a G scale 50' boxcar with an N scale 50' boxcar sitting inside of it.
I see a great way to store N scale rolling stock when not in use! Sure wish my wife was that thoughtful. <hint to wife> Need to get myself a fleet of those...
That's neat, your wife must have a wonderful sense of humor. :tb-cool: G-Scalers might consider it "Less than Carload", but we N-Scalers would consider it a Gross Insult! :tb-hissyfit:
I like it! If I had 1/4 of the budget I'd start accumulating G scale now. I foresee a G Scale Layout in my living room 20 years from now. Please don't tell Laura. Sumthin tells me she is thinking differently.
I think that what she is telling you is that ( SHE ) wants a garden layout. I would take advantage of that while I could. Craig
Garden Layout She has hinted about putting up my G scale stuff. I have some Bachmann stuff. Maybe I will do it just for the fun of it!
good question If G scale is roughly 1:32. And N is 1:160. Then you have a ratio of about 1 to 5. So wouldnt you multiply 160 by 5 to get 800? Or 1:800 scale? for a G scale model train in an N scale sized world? And you would divide 160 by 32 to get 5 or 1:5 for N scale in the G scale world? :tb-wacky:
It would be the other way around. N scale would be 1:5 (roughly 2.4 inches to the scale foot)to a G scale person, or "grand scale". It would make a nice G scale amusement park ride, and the track gauge would be 11.3 G scale inches. The G scale modeler would be able to ride his model. Conversely, a G scale locomotive would look about 5x normal size to an N scale person, and the track gauge would be 23ft 6-/12 N scale inches. I'd love to have that boxcar, BTW, even just for a shelf decoration. You have a nice wife.
Our actual N models would be 1/5 scale in G scale - suitable for a riding train in G scale. A G scale model of an N scale model would be 1:5120 in real life. Confused yet? (I know I am.) My wife and I agreed on doing G scale a few years ago. While we are getting the new house fixed up, I slowly acquire rolling stock. She does like it when I can set up something and impress her friends and their kids. Andy Tetsu Uma
G is cool. My ex and I had a small collection of USA trains items. I bought her a USA trains ACL GP-7. Man that locomotive looked and ran awesome. Maybe someday if I have a house again I'll get a G garden layout going. I always thought it would be cool to have either a B&M GP-9 bluebird pulling a set of McGinnis PS-1's or a CB&Q GP30 pulling a set of set of hicube boxcars. Ya know, spring is comming:tb-wink: Jim
Those Athearn Big Boys are beasts, I've never been able to fully test the limit of what they can pull
