I do not know about model trains, except that my dad had an interest in them 10-15 years ago. My dad has recently passed and now I am trying to help my mom liquidate some of the estate. My dad had several G Scale MTH RailKing, a few LGB, and 1 or 2 Buchmann trains in his collection. What I was hoping to get some help with is if anyone could direct me to where I can find out how much the trains are worth or even where to sell them at. I guess ebay? I really don't know. So if anyone could offer some advice or guidance it would be extremely appreciated. Thanks so much!
After determining prices, you can certainly offer them for sale here- In our "Temporary TrainStore" forum area. It is a free service. Boxcab E50
A little help Autumn, First, I am very sorry for your loss. This is a difficult time for you, and we all wish you and your family the best. There would be several ways to get some values......If u were to offer exact names and types of items you have, some here may be able to offer some advice. I would also try to look on the Big auction site....E B--.....(not sure if we can actually use the real names of the auction services here) Just search in that auction site for items of the same names....and see if u can get some previous sale info. You could also do an online search with your favorite search engine, and get some ideas of what new prices were like....and go from there. Last, check to see if there is a Hobby dealer in your area.........ie, a Hobby shop, or Train shop that has some experience in G scale trains.....they may be able to help.... Last.....at one of these hobby shops......if u have one.......see if there are any local train clubs in your area to see if u can get some info from a member. Just be carefull.......as in any situation.......be realistic in what u want in return, and try not to expect too much..... I hope this helps.......others will hopefully add their ideas. Regards, Darryl
As stated prior I am sorry for you and your families loss. When your up to it if Darryl's advice doesn't yield satisfactory results; then check with your local Barns & Noble or other bookstore and there are books out that can help you attain the values of these trains. Lionel and G scale on a whole are quite easy to attain values of. Best Regards Glen
Also sorry for your loss... Another perspective that might be considered, is there someone in the family that this can be past down too rather then sell. I have my dad's old train set that doesn't get out much; but, I'm sure glad I have it as a family heirloom item to pass down to another generation someday.
