For anybody interested in doing their own paint/decal work (either on the P42 or F59PHI, or with the Union Station car sides), I'm working up a custom decal for the Amtrak California trains. It will be screen printed, not Alps or inkjet, and probably by MicroScale. I've got the CalTrans blueprints to pull the exact info, and I've got the complete list of car names and car numbers... so now I just need a few nights to lay out the actual artwork and do some tests. If you're interested, just shoot me a message. I'm happy to also make the artwork for the Surfliner cars, but I'll need help with that one. (I model the Oakland area, and since I haven't seen any Surfliners up here, its not a priority for me.) If somebody can direct me to the prototype artwork, I can do the rest. (I've got the car numbers and car names). The Surfliner graphics are much simpler than the Amtrak California graphics (its just blue, white and black) and I could almost do it without the art, but if I'm going to bother, I might as well do it right. I've seen the HO-scale decals, and they're pretty simple. However, its a bit harder to mask and paint the blue stripe in N-scale, so I'm not sure if it would just be simpler to print the white/blue/white stripe with the "Surfliner" italic lettering all in place. --Michael Marriner (too much detail in all the wrong things)
