I just unloaded a bunch of my stuff that I really didn't need on ebay ,all new rolling stock. Nice stuff.
I did this to , 1. Get rid of some stuff I thought I wanted but really don't need. 2. To get some extra cash for christmas.
All auctions ended with payments made within an hour.........Except for one deadbeat. I watced him bid and bid and bid until he ended up being the winner. Now if he really wanted this item don't you think he would pay right away so I can mail it?
I looked at his feedback which had a number under 30, and he has been on a buying frenzy the last three weeks. All his feedback says.... ''fast payer'' and ''great ebayer''. The item he bought sold for 159.00 (his largest puchase)
He has a very childish ebay name ( I won't say it but it is a pretty ridiculous name) so I'm guessing he is younger and not financialy savvy. My guess is he don't have the money. He spent over $500 the last month on trains.
I'm sick of these deadbeats that don't pay. This happens to me almost every time I put 7-10 items on ebay , there is always one who don't pay or they have some lame excuse. Sorry RANT OVER.

well that happens. I would rather list it to everyone here prior to going to e-bay. A main reason that I dont use e-bay is alot of people put stuff for sell at list price or just under. Then the shipping is too high for the items i am interested in. Then if you find what you want and willing to pay, I always get out bid. What gets me is that alot of people end up paying over list price plus shipping. Or they either get the deal of the day and walk away pretty, with money saved. Anyways my rant sorry.
Sorry that you think that you are getting burned. You may want to keep in mind that the person may not use paypal and have to mail the payment.

I had the same thing happen to me last year- listed a bunch of items, they all sold pretty fast, everyone paid right away except for one and that one item was a high $$$ item. I also suspected the buyer was a youth and this was later confirmed during email exchanges when I was trying to get my payment over the next several weeks. He admitted he was tapped and asked for an extension which I granted. He finally did pay as arranged, and when he did, asked if I had any more of the item he had won. I did and he ended up buying two more from me (again high $$$) and paid immediately both times. Just another day on eBay. :) Jamie

On the flip side, I never sell on ebay anymore because I can't get a fair price on items. Several years ago I bought a Kato SD80MAC for $85, It sat in the box for a year. I started it on eBay for $45 dollars hoping a few people would bid and I could get 65/70 bucks for it. Plan failed and the locomotive sold to the highest, and only, bidder for the starting price of $45.

Ebay is a gamble no matter how yo look at it. You can start an item just under list price and not make a sale no matter how many time you relist. Or take a bigger chance and start at a lower price in hopes for a few bids and get a fair amount out of the item.

I never sold anything on ebay expecting to match what I paid. The buyer is out for a steal, the seller is out to make a sale for a fair price (most of the time).

I think eBay (the system, not the company) has the ability to draw certain people in. There is a kind of a stimulant or a high when we win a couple auctions in a row for items we really really think we want/need. Eventually it can get out of hand. Believe me, I know. When ebay first became popular I had a couple ebay buying sprees I should have passed on.... especially when the credit card bill came. Wisdom and maturity comes from prior experience. Just leave the guy a negative feedback after 14 days, that was always my policy.

Did you specify any terms in your auction as to when payment is due? (ie: 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, etc..) If not, a buyer has no obligation to pay you as soon as the auction ends. You can't file an unpaid complaint until 4 days has passed, so I guess that's what Ebay considers a reasonable amount of time to allow a buyer to send payment.

I state "Payment due within 24 hours of auction end" in my ebay listings. 99% of the time I get paid within that time span, but I still get a buyer every now and then who takes 2 days or whatever to pay. I usually don't worry about until after 3 days, at which point I simply send the buyer an invoice (and is usually paid shortly thereafter). Sometimes I think a few users don't know how to pay until they get an invoice.

How long has it been since the auction ended and you posted this?

Just because someone doesn't send you money as soon as the clock hits zero doesn't mean they're a deadbeat in my opinion.

    Just my $0.02.

Although this won't help you now, but go into your Ebay account, and under "Site Preferences", chose "Buyer Requirements" and edit them. You can set several parameters to block certain Ebayers from bidding on your auctions. It won't keep all the deadbeats away, but thin them out.

And then there are people like me who pay immediately, and then wait weeks and weeks for items to be shipped. And sometimes I have had the deadbeats who take my money, never do ship, give out false UPS shipping codes, and then the conflict resolution process has to be kicked in. I have always had my money refunded but it sure does take the fun out of it all.

it's funny how e-bay tell's me how i have to pay for stuff (paypal only)
They cant force me to go to the bank put money in the account
or push the pay now button. There policy is you have 7 days
to pay, even if you put must pay now.

    OH YA

i've been looking at this from a seller for about a week now still with no update...

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on December 6, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available.
everytime i copy the tracking # in thats the message i get
so much for paying 22 seconds after the auction ended!!!

USPS tracking is horrible. I've had packages shipped and delivered before USPS tracking even shows a status update.

Everytime I have ordered something and was given a USPS tracking number, I always get the same message, bigford. Just like Shaun said, their tracking system is pretty much worthless.

    >>>USPS tracking number
    >>>their tracking system is pretty much worthless.

That number is only for the seller to know that the package was delivered. Unless the package is sent registered, the USPS has no idea where the package is during transit

When possible, I ask the seller to use my Fedex or UPS account number and then I can do real tracking on my side
