The pictures are in the wrong order :(
hmmm, can't edit it anymore. But there is a ridlle in the pictures. There is a failure to find, do you find it?
No, it is not the name "Wolff Creek", because that I choose as a slight alteration of the Wolf Creek in Virginia, to match my surename ;)

    Too many things

A freight station has been just about comp;eted. When the town is getting closer to completion, the interior will have freight put in the lodaing bays. The market is one nice kit, but my old eyeballs aren't quite as good as they used to be making it a bit of a job. Another project is to paint and letter the little switcher. There are more projects in boxes in various stages of completion as I wait for orders to come in. With no hobby shops in the area, it makes model railroading a challenge at times. Have to wait and see what in in the post office. More goodies I hope.

I actually got a free minute to work on some of my own HO stuff this past weekend... This is the result of that free time:

Custom Painted C&O SD40 (Kato): Still need to weather the flour bag explosion look this engine had and add a few more details, but it's about 90% complete.

Finished custom painting and weathering this Accurail hopper:

Finally, have an Athearn Genesis 5161cf Trinity Hopper that needed to have the reporting marks replaced due to a factory error (smeared the last three digits). Microscale solved the problem nicely and then I added a light layer of weathering:

Just put the handrails on a test version of a D&NO SD39-2 (Ph II), and did some of the subs for a Phase I. I also started stripping some old Geeps for a quartet of D&NO 38-2s. Now I have to get on the horn with Microscale to order those custom decals. I have a lot of old Athearn stock that needs to be brought up to date and remotored.

I finally got around to adding the spout to my scratchbuilt Frisco water tank. It's a Grandt Line styrene casting but all the support structure was scratchbuilt and NBWs added and blackened chain. This has been the most fun part of the project. I took some random photos of the progress. I still need to add ladders, bracing and roof details. Thanks for checking in.

Nice water tower, JimJ. Very realistic.

Adding Smokey Valley handrails to my SD40T-2 Athearn Blue Box.

There is one stanchion missing at the corner of the rear. Smokey Valley has a lot of detail; I am surprised they missed that. I will improvise by using a brass channel or something.

    Nice work Jim and all,
    Great modeling going on here!
Here is a BB Athearn F45 I got for the right price that was assembled and very heavily weathered, A bit much even for me. I took the engine completely apart, and decided to make "went a wreck" out of it and have some fun with it. Here we have the air conditioner removed, and some of the roof details, like the ATSF antenna plane fabricated and installed, the smaller ones are Plano etched metal. Removed the factory fans and exhaust hatch. cleaned some of the weathering off with a bunch of Q-tips and ISO alcohol, being careful not to remove the factory paint. Anyway will keep at it, and what kind of different fun stuff can be done to the thing.

Tom, I kinda like the effect left from the cleaning. Really makes the detail pop out with the previous weathering nested in all the nooks and crannies. I especially appreciate the rewards of giving new life to an older model. I feel more apt to try more aggressive or challenging techniques on a used or older loco or rolling stock. Keep us updated on the transformation.

    Thanks Jim and Mike

Funny thing is I built this engine probably 15-20 years ago, sold it, it changed hands a couple times, then a couple weeks ago it came back home, and I thought it deserved to be finished a bit.
Anyhow, made some serious headway today. Used old Train Station Dyn fans, and Brass PSC Fuel fillers and Radiator fans with Overland fan blades. Cannon exhaust for a Dash2 but its close enough for this old beast. Bent some .015 Brass wire for the conduit on top of the cab, Details West (DW) Air horn, antennas, and air filters were installed as well a Speed recorder from a BN unit that was parted out installed on the F/S #2 axle. Detail Associates (DA) Grab irons, Eye Bolts, Fuel gauges, windshield wipers and MU hoses were all mounted. Used a Jig, to bend up the brake cylinder pipes for the trucks, painted one of the brake cylinders Black like it had been replaced, also painted the journal boxes Black on axle #3 like the traction motor and boxes were replaced. There was damage to a side panel door but there was a part available off that same BN unit to replace it too.
I made a punch from Brass tubing and cut circles out of paper, and used thin ACC to glue them to cover the BB body mount holes, cool thing that is does not interfere with the factory lugs. I filled in the pilot holes, then drilled and tapped some new holes, and relocated the couplers inward to more closely match the prototype. The coupler cut bars were already installed and run 8 windows were already there too. Painted the horn silver like it was rebuilt too. The #1 radiator fan looks like it came off a Conrail unit that was parted out. Good old KD #5 metal couplers were used and the the frame milled off to get them the right height. I also milled a slot in the side of the fuel tank to simulate the foot step there.
The MKO decals were already there, the Yellow FRA decal strips were added, as well as some builders plates. I cant believe those plates are still on the unit.
Anyways finished it up with some weathering chalks and thin washes of weathering solution sprayed on, and dull-coated. Now to put it in service.
Had a blast with this thing spent way more time on than I should have, and used a bunch of old parts up, but it was fun.
    Thanks for looking.

Tom, that project is what it's all about to me. I love everything about it, including the history of the model coming into play.

It's funny some of my best efforts have come from projects that started with a low-buck item ready for the trash. No fear trying different things with it, and so you're free to flex your creativity I guess.

    Looks good!

Thanks Jerry Mike and all for the kinds words and comments. I so very much enjoy seeing all of your/our modeling efforts. This Hobby and the MRR forums I visit are most informative and I am so glad to see such talented modelers as you are, sharing info and techniques.

Nothing finished this week but some in progress pictures.

I purchased a set of decals from Highball Graphics for a P&LE Boxcar and he had labeled it for a PS1 boxcar. In searching the Canada Southern site I felt that using the Branchline 1000B (8' Door Full Fishbelly side sill would be a better match) Also it would have the proper Despatch Roofs and Ends as these cars were built at the Despatch Shops.
I substituted a 10' Door from the Scrapbox and used some left over short ladders from IMRC PS1 boxcars to match prototype photos on Fallen Flags. As the car had a cushion underame I added DW Extended Coupler Pockets. Still have to complete some of the detail and extend the door tracks to accomodate the 10' door.

Your engine looks good Flash. Where you get your decals or do you make them yourself?
