I may be off base ( hope I am ) , It seems a little shy around here on Western Maryland . I have a ton of questions about the WM . Maybe there are some WM model railroaders / railfans that might contribute to this thread. Please help me out here folks. Thanks WMFred
Welcome to TrainBoard! We do have some WM fans and modelers aboard, so I hope they'll speak up. Boxcab E50
Several of us have an interest in Western Maryland. So, my suggestion would be to start a thread, or threads, and see what happens.
Thanks, I am still trying to find my way around in here...I have no clue as to how to start a thread or what category to start one. Might be best to hide in the bushes and watch for now.
BL-2 I was wondering if the WM ever ran F-7B units with the BL-2? What other locomotives were run with the BL-2 as well ? Space only permits for tight raidiuses on my layout and only 4 axle diesels or 2-8-0 steam engines will work. Looks like the SD's and big Alcos are out . I think the Geeps, Alco RS's , F-7 and BL series would look great running two engine lash ups. I look forward to some feed back. Thanks , Fred
Welcome to Trainboard Fred Your question about WM's BL2 would be a good start for a thread. Never saw the WM as I'm on the west coast.
There is a website that covers the Western Maryland and other roads that were part of the alphabet route. It is http://www.alphabetroute.com/ . There is also a book on the Western Maryland -- Fireballs & Black Diamonds by Roger Cook and Karl Zimmerman, which has a lot of pictures of Western Maryland locomotives. The book has several pictures of a BL2 working by itself with a small local. There are also some pictures of BL2s in lashups, mostly with F units.
Any of the Western Maryland books on diesels will provide lots of pictures of BL2s. I believe they both ended up with cracked frames and had to lead any consist they were assigned to, prior to being relegated to the yard with the slugs.
Here are a few pictures of Westerns Maryland BL2 #82 which is still in operation. http://www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?road_number=WM%2082 This locomotive is still used in passenger and freight service. It is paired up with an FP7 most of the time, but has been with an F7A, FA2 and a GP9 with it's current owner. I think it spent much of it's time on the WM paired with a slug unit in yard and transfer service.
Thanks for the replies to my questions concerning the BL-2 . The links are just what I wanted to see. Seems like I am on the right track.....no pun intended. Thanks again ,Fred
Love the logo I just love the Western Maryland logo and the killer paint scheme on their steam locos. Here's a photo of the crown jewel of my N scale steamer fleet.
