Why not. My skyscrapers are on my model railroad layout. There are plenty of sub-topics inside the world of modeling, and the more the merrier. Mike Habersack
TrainBoard Groups One of the many features here at TrainBoard is TrainBoard Groups where a group of members can create what I call a "Special Interest Group(SIG)" forum in this area of TrainBoard. As long as the group stays active the TB Group can have this side room forum to discuss such topics. When the group stops being active we purge off the group. We have near 30 such TB Groups going already... :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin:
I believe we have drifted off course on the subject of this thread. Of course a SIG could be formed on any topic supported by members and allowed by the owners of a site. And tall building builders have the right to their opinions about their molding and to prefer it to Model Trains. Some are terrific molders and very good at what they do. As far as I know this has been a civil discussion of a proposal. No insult or injury to anyone or their opinions. But The questioned posed to the general membership was should a non Model Train forum/SIG for tall buildings, only Tall buildings, and no trains , be allowed on a Model Train specific Site. So far its 3 to 1 against allowing it. I think the poll will run a few more weeks and then close. I'm curious to see the final results of the poll. See ya Ron
I have a huge group of online friends that all model in the Urban setting. It's strange how how some of these posts refer to this as just tall buildings. Not all urban buildings are skyscrapers. I just built this model the other day for my city. and Cathedrals.. Creating street life and urban details.. It's so much more than just building skyscrapers... and on that note not one of my fellow urban modelers excludes trains from their layout. The trains are the main reason for building the layout. We all have a right to have our views and preferences on the N scale world of modeling. Just don't put the Urban modelers into a box by saying we only build skyscrapers and hate trains. I just bought two new locos yesterday from a closing hobby store. Cheers All Bob
Perhaps there should be separate (and exclusive) boards for cornfields and orange groves as well. (Bernie Kempinski's daughter had a nice piece on apple orchards in a recent NSR). I like mountains, but AFAIK there's no board devoted to that. Ultimately, it's all scenery for the TRAINS to run through.
Although I enjoy all aspect of model railroading my favorite is structure building. I've noticed that many forums have groups that are setup specifically for structures but all are primarilly directed to HO and larger scales. Since I model in n-scale I have for several months considered setting up a group directed to the modeling of n-scale structures but if there was sufficiant interest I would set up one for all scales. Your thoughts would be appreciated. George
I found a site with a photo, amazing detail!! Trains.com - Model Railroader - Online Community - Rod Stewart's Grand Central Station
After further review.......... I say if ya wanna start a subgroup on Trainboard dedicated to the building of tall buildings for model railroads, go for it. Its success will be up to those who participate. Why wait on a poll result?:tb-wink:
IMO if you don't have a subgroup for buildings/structures, why have one for a specific type of building. EDIT got my terms confused. No sub forum section for tall buildings, but a group seems okie dokie.
A group?, yes, forum? no. My logic which may echo some of the other posters is that there are way too many other subject areas that by the same logic could request a special forum. Niche areas seem the ideal place for the groups.
Well, I can't vote anymore, but honestly, I'd say no, only because this place is already to big to easily find all the topics of interest. I haven't even looked into groups. I've been a part of other boards on other topics which had forums for everything. It's a good way to split people up and segregate them unintentionally. In other words, I vote we leave things as they are. Heck, there are days I wish we had only 2 forums Railfanning Model Railroading. Cause lets face it, there isn't a single topic on this board (cattle car excluded) that doesn't fall into those topics. Everything else is just for organization.
