I just picked up a set of PennZee REA Reefers today. They come in a set of four with different road numbers. I'm not an expert on REA, but I think the scheme is from the early to mid fifties. Dan S.
Very nice, Dan. Where did you get them? London Bridge? I also want to hear about those resin trucks in the background. ;-) Randy
Randy, Yes, I got the reefers from London Bridge. They just arrived there this morning. The trucks are in the picture because I was too lazy to crop them out, and the flash was acting up if I tried to get any closer to the reefer. So, there be trucks in the background. The trucks are a future project. I wanted to test a couple of things out, so I tossed some rough masters into another mold that I was making. It is a 1954 chevrolet gasoline powered tractor. The trailer is sort of an imaginary cross between a Bantam Supercargo and a fruehauf Aero-Van. Like I said, just sort of playing around. I hope to eventually make a product out of it. Dan S.
Technically speaking, PennZee was never really out of production. They just don't have scheduled releases. It is a one man operation, and sometimes, his time and financial resources are needed elsewhere. Even when he isn't releasing new product, he is still active in researching roadnames and planning future runs. He just doesn't have the time or resources required to make regular releases. His last release was just over a year ago (reading 3 bays). Anyway, PennZee comes out with new releases when it can. Dan S.
I live in the same area as PZ is from. I knew that they were coming for a long time. It was just a matter Bob getting around to assembling and packaging them. I was talking to Ron at London Bridge on the phone earlier this week, and he said that Bob was supposed to be shipping them. It was just a fluke that they were there when I got there today. Usually, the on line dealers will announce when they get them in stock, and then they might appear in the next Z-Track.
Lindley, The trucks are still going to be a while. They are in line behind a few other products. I still have to work out the doors on the trailers, leveling wheels, etc, as well as work out a couple of problems with the mold. I think I will be offering a tractor/trailer combo as well as individual trailers. Thanks. Dan S.
I repainted some PennZee reefers into the older REA scheme a couple years ago: I can use a couple of that scheme too!
Yes, the Pennzee reefers are shipping from my shop already. Rob, great photo and excellent painting as usual!
