Hi all, I'm looking for a replacement 571223 Motor Assy w/Flywheels for a newer LL E8B. Should I just spend $30 on a new loco and swap bodies, or can I get 1, do you think?

I think this ties to the addicton thread now. Turns out I can get the motor from Walthers for $25, or there are a few etailers selling these for about $30. No brainer right! Except I'm thinking I should buy 2. Move the motor to the Amtrak I want it in and make 1 of the new road name a dummy..... Or make me a dummy.....

I'd buy a new unit. If for nothing else, I get some extra parts. :)

I loves it when you fine folks... answers your own questions.

Order a new motor out and replace it. I for one have purchased a bunch of junk for parts... only to learn, the part I wanted was the bad order item.

Whatever you do, get the most for your money.

    And have fun!

    Yes Rick,
The answer is usually in your head. I was really hoping a magic fairy would post a website where the motor was available for <$15. This would have kept me from a number of more expensive options I'm considering.

When I'm sitting here the motor makes the most sense, for a number of reasons. DCC will be tough, but I almost have it worked out in my mind. Do I need more E8s I won't run? Many many things.

    Hi kmcsjr,

I have these two LL E8/9 chassis, both new. PM me if interested. My shipping and handling should be more reasonable than Walthers, hopefully.

I believe its the same motor as the old GP38 if you happen to have one of those siting around. Or buy one cheap on ebay. Good luck.

I wanted to let you know that you can get the E8 OR E9 undecorated locomotives at ESTHERS hobbies for 55.00 dollars. The number is: 412-821-2415 so just buy the complete unit.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, Rick had the right idea, I hemmed and hawed all week. The only way to do this, without wanting more!more! more!, was just order the motor. Besides, I have this feeling that LL will redo these w DCC and I'll be kicking myself and spending more.

Marty, I'm glad it worked out for you.

Now, shall I tell you about a set of Life Like, Proto E-8's I just bought from woo woo woo woo woo woo? Naw, I think I'll pass. I wouldn't want you to think of me as a hypocrite. I may be, but that's a different issue for a different board.

This wasn't for parts...this time. I need to run a set of UP Passenger cars and this seemed the best option for the money.

    There in lies the answer.

that wouldn't be hypocritical, I have enough issues with the overspending I'm doing right now. If your on to more stuff, great. I'm still thinking an E8, that is DCC compatible, that doesn't look for track flaws, might sell..... So thats what I expect from Walthers right after the existing stock sells out. Yup. I saw the woo woo woo woo woo woo stuff, that's what prompted the thread, motor vs new locos
