After an 18 month hiatus in the hobby I have started to return. Today I cleaned the layout and lubricated all the switches and actually ran a couple of trains. already thinking about building a new layout which will start on the current vacant wall of the room. rather than extend the existing layout I'm considering building this one as code 55 and DCC then demolishing the old layout and extending this one. Gats??? If you are still thinking about upgrading your DCC I'll buy yours for now lol. Will post a few photos of some trains tomorrow, too hot now to be modelling it is 42C or 108F at the moment.
It'll be great to know you're active again! Maybe there's a magazine article in there, somewhere? Boxcab E50
Welcome Back I guess, but does one ever really leave this hobby? I have not done anything on my layout for years, but I never thought of myself as having left the hobby. I was still chasing trains, taking photos & video, and buying model railroad stuff even if I was not doing anything with either my modules or layout. Now Ihave built both into a New Layout.
thanks guys, Jolly, Basically over the past 18 months I have completely been away from the layout, have not bought a single thing or even read my N scale magazines. Hopefully will take a couple of photos this morning and post here
Here are a couple of photos just taken it's been that long I've forgotten how to adjust depth of field lol
Nice looking layout. you must hava had a lot going on to not even find time to read your N scale magazines, I guess you really were away form the hobby. I've been doing the train thing from when I was a kid, I mite have gone a year or so with out touching a train, but I always found time to get track side and watch them go by.
Welcome back! It's funny, but sometimes a break like that can energize you more than ever. That little bug can bite hard! -Gary
Welcome Back! Welcome back, Colonel Paul! I'm a newbie here on the Trainboard, as you've probably figured out. But I'm a kinda loud-mouthed one, too. So you'll probably see more from me than you'd like to, unless you block out anything from me (folks have been known to do that)! Those two pics you posted show an incredible amount of skill and attention to detail in your modeling. I'm not "buttering you up" when I say I hope I can match that one day - but somehow, with my attention span, I kinda doubt it. I'm more of a "36-inch modeler" than a close-up one. I just like to watch 'em go round and round, with some occasional switching. But lately, I have been getting interested in peddler and "real" railroading work. But my current layout is more of a teaching tool; I'm building the WS Scenic Ridge layout kit to teach myself styrofoam subterrain and the rest of the plaster cloth and ground foam scenery systems. The NEXT layout will be larger, more detailed, and have an actual POINT to it. This one's just roundy-round and practice. Good to have you back, and I hope the 18-month hiatus gave you a FULL recharge. Jim
WHAT? With the money you earn? Buy new! Since you're so (re)enamoured with the layout, we should restart our Friday night 'chew the fat and do no work' sessions again. The back drops are nearly complete on mine so additional input would be nice. Pat is up for it.
