A member in my traingroup needs a to build a modern electrical substation, can anyone point me in the right direction for a kit or kitbash or starting place? thanks, Jan
Depending on how big he wants it I came across this on while looking through Plaza Japans eBay store. Found it interesting enough to add to my favourites. Substation - Tomix 4023 - eBay (item 130238708717 end time Sep-12-08 02:21:08 PDT)
I can't resist--this one still survives today, and is being renovated--Milwaukee Road's Primrose Substation #10: I know, I know--smart aleck!
I remember there being one in N Scale magazine quite a few years ago, but for the life of me, I can't find it to tell which issue. -Mike
Hi Jan, Years ago I bought a Model Power substation kit which is no longer in production. I only just recently used some components from it to build this little substation for my Moffat Tunnel scene. I may still have some parts left over & am happy to send them to you if you like. I remember throwing out a lot of the kit parts as they were overscale & just kept what I was able to use. I really only used the transformer / I beam frame and insulators from the original kit. GMM fencing / Atlas power pole + some other details were added You may be able to trawl eBay or swap meets to find the same kit If I was going to build a larger substation, I always thought that Walthers Drayton Machinery Co. would have been a suitable structure to use Hope this is some help Steve :tb-cute:
Hi, Kibri makes a nice substation kit. Check it out in any Walthers catalog. It's been on the market for quite awhile. Jim
I bought this tomix substation from Dan's Train Depot. I bought it they way it is. Who ever weathered this and added the chain link fence did an awesome job. Here's the photos of what I bought... Just an awesome model!
Piko has a nice one. 60016 Transformer Station. http://www.piko.de/ Avalible in NJ at $19.95,(it's on special at the moment); Marklin Roco HAG Trix Fleischmann Piko LGB Faller Schuco Preiser Viessmann and more .... Euro Model Trains!
The Piko is the same one I purchased under the Kibri name. I can't remember what I paid, but it was at my LHS and is listed in the Walthers catalog. Jim
www.custommodelrailroads.com Check out the two different Milwaukee Road styles, in H.O. and N scale!!
Although it is currently out of production, but seen on eBay from timer to time, the Con-Cor stock number 690 (or 0002-000690) Cambria City Electric Substation kit is a fairly decent model. The aforementioned product was also marketed by Piko, as stock number 60016.
