On my liftout, I took the precaution of making the first 18 inches of track on either side of the bridge be isolated, and get power from the bridge (via keyed connectors, underneath). This was, if I'm not paying attention and go flying towards the removed bridge....
Been working on rock outcrops on the east side in the main room...a manifest approaches the largest one... And we turn to follow the train and get a wider view; From almost the same viewpoint we see a southbound train loaded with lumber: And we see that same train a bit further along at a crossing:
I'll be in your neck of the woods in a couple weeks - Rochelle area from the day after Labor Day til the 17th, and plan to be at the Illinois Railway Museum the weekend of the 18th.....
You'll have fun at both.. I used to live within minutes of Union when I was a kid.. Wish I was still there.
Okay, I want to run them oh they look Great!!! I can't wait to see them in action on the your beautiful layout.
I've never had a coupler height issue with FVM versus either Kato or any of my cars. I MU with Katos all the time...near as I can tell, they're spot on. I have NOT put them on a gauge simply because as long as they mate with everything else, why bother! I DO, however, gauge the wheels, and have found more than one a bit on the narrow side - no biggie because a lot of locos have that issue.
Jim, that giant Tesla coil..err water tower really amplifies the scale of the trains to the surrounding scenery. Nice pic.
Very cool picture, your layout needs to be in a magazine like NSR. As someone who works in the wireless industry I would say you need a small hut or small cement pad with a couple of cabinets behing the water tower by the fence for the cell equipment since we would never put it inside the tower were the pumps are due to space and safety conserns.
MopMan - Thanks! Thanks for that, Sundowner! Another important detail for the modern modeler! The original Oakville Sub was in N Scale magazine several times, and I'm about to begin writing a story on this one...Dunno if Kirk is interested...
When I first opened the thread to see the new posts, all I saw was the top of the water tower, with the white cell equipment! I was wondering what kind of alien craft had come down in Oakville!! biggrin: Great photos, can't look at your layout enough.
No problem Jim, this tread is one of my favorites on Trainboard. Kirk should be interested as well as Pamela. Your layout deserves the multi page coverage one of those two could provides.
I certainly have the photos on this layout, and a lot of sidebar material - things I've found while building. I could probably come close to filling an entire issue, but of course, no editor would go for that, nor would I as a reader.
Do the write up in installments, that way it is broken up into smaller digestable pieces. I know I would be interested in the bench work, wiring etc....... It could make it fun to get the magazines
Why not? For myself, I would most definitely buy a book about what you've been doing here, lessons learned, etc. Forum threads are one thing, but a work like this, once (reasonably) finished, deserves the dead-tree treatment.
