This weekend is the shopping weekend. We also have an event at my wife’s work on Saturday afternoon. We will spend sometime getting things ready for our vacation next week. (I won’t be around next Friday so if anyone wants to start this thread please do so.) I would like to begin weathering the cars sitting on the workbench. I also have some details to add to the farm scene.
Well, since it is my wife's birthday this weekend I decided to send her on a writing get-away (she is working on a novel). SO I will have kid duty. But I hope to spend some time looking under a microscope to try and find out why my Climax gears are binding in the rear truck...
I hope to get a start on the scenery on my layout's lower level by painting the backdrop. I also need to go through my show bag and fix/replace equipment for the Waupaca show next week.
I'm hoping to start terraforming the layout base above the last bit of uncovered benchwork this weekend. The Walthers ice house is nearing completion, but its space next to the tracks currently looks straight down to the floor. Adding the foam will mean co-ordination with the rest of the landform plans for the layout - the water area for Moose Bay itself, and a spot for the Weimer's Mill kit that's been sitting on a shelf in the basement for 2 1/2 years, unstarted.
It's FRIDAY THE 13TH! Shiver me timbers matey! Just so we understand each other...I'm not superstitious. However, my granddad, an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, out of Barstow, CA., was very superstitious. If a black cat walked across his path he would high tale it around the area, where he thought the cat had traveled. Non sense... in my opinion. He didn't much like it when he found that same cat sitting in my lap purring up a storm and happy to have a friend. My employment as department head for a hospital allowed me a few relishes. Out of curiosity we looked into the number of incidents, work related accidents, that occurred at work. What we found is that over a five year period Friday the 13th was no different then any other day. Relax, take a deep breath and enjoy the day.
Looks like it's getting cooler, so I may be able to stay down in the basement for a couple of hours to do some modeling. Just some scenery stuff.
I have 3 Athearn BNSF/SF SD75M/Is that I'm adding some details to. Hopefully I can complete them on the weekend along with adding some weathering details to couple 50' auto box cars.
I should make a start on recovering track and switches from the dimantled layout. The current version fits into the room but I can't fit the workbench as well and can't negotiate additional real estate. So, a new design is underway and old is to go.
Saturday morning I am going for a ride on the Lebanon Mason and Monroe Railway (Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad - Ticket Office & Gift Shop 127 S. Broadway, Lebanon Ohio 45036). They have a visit from the Flagg Coal Company 0-4-0T (FlaggCoalCompany75.com ) which will be pulling a short excursion. While on the excursion I will be taking lots of detail pictures for a decal sheet to help a friend model the train. After that I have an HO hospital to finish the interior in, and I plan to get at least one of my IORY diesels finished this weekend.
With Sunday being Father's Day, no telling what the boys have cooked up- either way, I'm taking a weekend off of layout work . Saturday my youngest is in a Young Life program to help raise money for church camp in Colorado next month.
Purchased a brass Northern Pacific, T-1 class 2-6-2. That cab needs a fireman and an engineer in it. I'd also like to rig a up a curtain for the cab end and darned if the thing didn't come with an apron. I think I'll try to fashion one. I'll do a little wheel cleaning and then...enjoy Father's Day...
