This will be a factory that makes roofing shingles. They will get car loads of different color sand in hoppers, and tank cars of asphalt in, and loaded box cars of finished shingles will be pulled out.
Wow! Fantastic layout. Hadn't seen this thread before, since most was "before my time". Once again, the "Oh for a large basement" lament
This will be the locomotive storage tracks at the e/e of the staging yard. This is the e/e of the staging yard. There are 11 tracks, each are 20-25 feet long. I will have to do something about the light here! Here is the w/e of the staging yard. This is an unknown industry right now, just room for 2 or 3 cars!
Mike Where you been the past 2 years? Ha, those spiral tunnels--my all time favorite rail fanning experience. Nevermine, you did't do it on your new layout. I took your rendition of those and built them into my new layout (a triple decker) in a room about 20' X 35'. Not yet landscaped but hope they look as good as yours did.
Thanks for the updates Mike. Glad to see your layout progressing again. It was a favorite with your old one and this one is a favorite as well. Don't be a stranger!
Thanks for the welcome back everyone! I have a 4 year old engineer who loves trains. (imagine that!) He likes to watch the trains run on the layout. I'm even getting him trained on how to use the digitrax throttle! I'm thinking of having an op session soon, when you get a bunch of guys running trains on your layout, you usually find areas that can be improved! I'll try to keep the pictures comming, and have to look at getting a new camera. My digital elph doesn't have any manual settings. I'm missing my old Olympus!
Mike, welcome back! My lil engineer is 5 now, and he LOVES trains! When the layout comes back out, I will hook up the DCC system,a nd let him use the throttle. He is very meticulous, and given some training, seems to be a good candidate for op sessions!
Here are a few pictures of the new extension to the Mountain Sub. This is looking at the new siding just before the spiral tunnel. It will be about 18 feet long. Here is the new Spiral Tunnel, it will be single track, it crosses over itself and goes back down the same way, then there will be another siding about 16-18 feet long. Here is a shot of the entire peninsula. This is where the 2nd siding will tie back into the old track. I'm going to start the roadbed today and pick up some more track. I've already used all the track from my old layout, (500 pieces of flex track!) I've ran the 12 gauge bus wires, so if everything goes as planned, I may have trains running on the new section in a week.
It is GREAT to see this one active again. I eagerly await your progress, especially as a big CP fanatic! my best, Jan
Mike , once again we are enjoying the fantastic long runs and I can already see that mountainous scenery taking shape in my mind. Thanks Mike , Mike
