I bet they sell a heap of passenger cars to people who bought challengers too.

I notice the prototype photo shows UP specific roof details, I wonder if the model will have them? Would like to see Santa Fe units with correct roof details, ATSF units didn't have dynamic brakes as the Kato model does.

Wonder if the new shell with lighted number boards will fit the current mechanism or if the new units will have a new mech.

Pennsy fans might get a new run of E8's to go with the Broadway Ltd next year.

I've noticed for a long time that the UP E8A/B units fetched very good prices, so these will sell out quickly. So they kill two birds with one stone - heritage train for the sell-out Challengers and period train to boot. Good opportunists at times, our Kato friends! :)

yeah but you would think Kato do more than just UP speacking forth that UP wasn't the only railroad to own E8s or smootherside passenger cars. But yet again Kato only releases one railroad at a time that has a passenger train. Look at the Fs.

    Stating the obvious.....

The other good news here is that Kato has re-started the E8/9 "production line", meaning they may have produced mechanisms and bodies to support releases of additonal roads.

    Jack,

My thoughts exactly. Email Kato with your wants. We could definitely use some for the Daylight, Broadway, and there never seems to be enough CB&Q and Santa Fe Es around either. How about a 20th Century Ltd with some new Es up front?

I'd buy that for a dollar! (actually, several hundred dollars) :)

I just noticed on the BLW website that the UP Es will now have lighted number boards, so we're looking at some retooling (not just a new run of the originals). As a passenger fan, the E units are among my favorite engines. I'm still hoping that at some point Kato will add an E7 to the mix.

Well PCM makes the E7, but is it around $200. But it has DCC and Sound.

With Athern's Challenger out this passenger consist will look pretty good. That is another reason to come out with the cars.

Yep, I knew that. At this point in my N scale modeling, I'm pretty much limiting my engine purchases to Kato and an occasional "must have" from Atlas. I've bought engines from other manufacturers, but have grown dissatisfied with the hit or miss quality. Kato is the only company that I can confidently state has never disappointed me.

I have the original 1st run of both the UP E8's and smooth side passenger cars made in 92-93. The 1st run passenger cars were not numbered or named. they also came in a 6 and 4 cars packaged in a plastic binder and cardboard sleeve. Might have to get me anotehr set to keep teh original company ;)
