G'day Alan, I don't think old Santa has left a digital camera under the tree for me this year mate so I'll just have to make do with what I've got. But in the meantime I thought that this might interest you. This is a coaster provided by my Union to its members at Christmas. The picture on the coaster is of two BB18 1/4's leading a heritage train up the Toowoomba Range. These locomotives were restored by QR and are now part of QR's heritage fleet. Anyhow mate untill I'm able to get some shots off at work I hope this will do & have a merry Christmas aswell.
That'll do for me, Shane Do you ever get to handle the steam locomotives (are they in working order)? Happy Christmas to you and all others "down under". You always beat us to Christmas day
Writer, mostly, for high level corporate stuff. Also designer/producer/strategic planner--much of my writing is in the strategic planning area and, since I originate most of the material, I guess I'm a strategic planner by default. For the past seven years, I've been in the nuclear weapons and counterterrorism arena. Before that, I was an active freelancer. Getting a digital camera has revived my photography career, where I started 36 years ago and abandoned 25 years ago. Pete
Interesting topic... As for me, I am an Army Nurse Corps officer (an RN for short ). I love the field because it is never boring. If I get tired of one particular area, I can just go from that one to another one that would peak my interest. So far, Uncle Sam has been good to me and has offered me many opportunities towards my advanced education. I hope to get my PhD before I retire, but that is a phase that has yet to become a reality once things settle down with all the issues going on in the middle east. Like others in here have said, get an education on something you like, enjoy and peaks your interests.
Remember the old Smith-Barney stockbrokerage commercials... "We earn money the olde-fashioned way.... [we steal it!]" No... no ... I'm not a stockbroker... and if I were... I 'wouldn't admit it after what's happened the last three years. Actually... I work for government... uh... , local government in Miami-Dade County Florida , uhhhh....... the tax collection department.... uh...oh.. Ummmm... maybe a stockbroker wouldn't have been such a bad reply after all.
I am currently a high school student too. Like you said it's a full time job. Though in the summer I find myself doing odd jobs. I'm not pulling straight A's but I'm working on it.
I work for "YORK" At a factory here in IL. They are a world wide employer, and we build units that keep things cold and frozen all over the world. Some of our units fit in the back of a pick up thuck and some take three semi. trucks to haul to the jobe site. I have been here in the same place for 15yrs. "Make sure you are doing what you like doing, it makes going to work easier" trust me I know! Mr Train
What an incredible cross-section of people! The young man who started this thread must be halfway through college by now. I'm a parts inspector in an aluminum foundry. Having access to precision measuring equipment is almost vital for scratchbuilding in N-scale. Much of what our company makes is for the military. Hellfire missile fins. Parts for the 20mm gatling gun and 30mm gun. That circular "wing" on the nose of the GBU-10 laser-guided bomb? That's ours. I was formerly a metallurgist in a steel plant. I've also stocked shelves and shoveled cow manure. Get as much education as you can. You won't use 15 % of what you learn in college, but you can't know in advance WHICH 15 % that is. Twenty years later, I still try to learn something new each day.
Retired teacher, coach and Athletic Director. Currently, baseball scout for the Colorado Rockies in Northern Cal.
What a diverse group!! I drove tour buses & trucks(my own)all over this GREAT country for 24 yrs.I had the chance to hire out on the RR back then, but didn't.I kicked myself in the @ss since. 4 years ago,I got the chance again,&jumpped on it.I'm now an engineer with a major commuter RR in N.J.
Yes this is certainly a diverse group and not just within america but the whole world. It is amazing how many career changes and those who have joined the rail industry late in their careers. I'm considered a veteran now after 24 years working in the rail industry and I'm not 40 until February next year lol. I guess I wont be changing my career although sometimes when stress levels are high a career in model railroading would be great lol. I suppose everybody dreams of being a Professional Model Railroad builder lol.
Hiya Paul, Jason from Sydney N scale, any jobs going within City Rail?Ive been in earth moving for 13yrs now,you could say Im a 35yro big kid playin with BIG machines & little trains lol.But Im looking for a change now,any offers?

Well, I am a late comer to both Traiboard and this thread, but I am an Accountant for a Commuter Railroad.
I am a family practice doctor. I recently finished my residency and am currently an attending. Love every minute of it. Jeff
SecretWeapon, it's an N-scale code 55 rail joiner stuck into your thumb! Oh, wait a sec...That was my thumb... To get back to the thread: I work in the IT dept for a hospital supply company -- John
