Posted this on Railwire as well, but we're thinking of moving from Texas up to Alberta, particularly Three Hills in about a year. My wife's from Calgary and has been here for almost 10 years and she's homesick. Three Hills is about 60 miles from Red Deer and 90 miles from Calgary. Any of you guys live near there or am I going to be the only one flying the Trainboard flag for the N scaler's if we move?
There should be several other TrainBoard members in that area. Believe grant-sar is in the Calgary vicinity. What prompts a relocation from sunny Texas? Boxcab E50
there are some fine modelers in calgary. i had the great pleasure to meet grant and run trains on his sar layout. also i was able to run trains on mike haggartys layout. i don't know if he's a member here but usually he registers as sd90. unfortunately i live a 10hours FLIGHT away...
My wife's a native Calgarian (her mon and rest of her family are still there) and her brother and his family live in Three Hills. She's thinking of moving her chiropractic practice there. We're also thinking that the small town environment is much more condusive to railsing our three children than the big city. She's the only reason I'd ever leave the best place ever (Texas). I guess if someone's got to bite the bullet and live near Grant and Mike which, in my opinion, are probally two of the worlds best N scale modellers, it should be me.
Grant's SAR, Mike's Laggan sub, Ken's Edson sub, and my Wyoming Central are all around Calgary. I am the closest to 3 hills but you will find yourself going into town enough. All 4 layouts have 300 plus feet main and are around 1000 sq ft.
I wonder if any of these layouts will be open as part of the Rockyview Express meet in Calgary May 19 to 21. That would certainly justify the gas from Regina to Calgary.
Thanks for all the great replies. We're still kicking this around. We'll be up for two weeks in August for a wedding, hijinks with the kids and some sight seeing (insert railfanning here). I'll keep you all posted on what we decide.
If you drive, stop in at Great Falls, MT (right off of I-15 north) and see the state's largest public display layout, the GF Model RR Club layout! Oh, and I'm in GF, too. I've been to Calgary, the 6 hour drive was worth it! Grant's sar and Mike's Laggan Sub were a treat to see and operate!
